Denver Broncos POSTGAME Notes 2 World Championships • 6 Super Bowls • 8 AFC Title Games • 10 AFC West Titles • 17 Playoff Berths • 24 Winning Seasons vs. Pittsburgh Steelers • Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 • 6:07 p.m. MDT • INVESCO Field at Mile High FINAL SCORE: BRONCOS 34, STEELERS 17 DENVER WINS FIRST PRESEASON MATCHUP WITH PITTSBURGH The Broncos beat the Steelers 34‐17 in the first preseason meeting ever between the two teams. With the win, Denver improves to 1‐2 this preseason and 123‐109 (.530) all‐time in preseason play. DEFENSE RECORDS THREE INTs; TWO FOR TOUCHDOWNS The Broncos recorded three interceptions against the Steelers, with two of the takeaways being returned for touchdowns and the third preventing a Pittsburgh score in the end zone. Rookie CB Perrish Cox, who started at cornerback in place of CB Champ Bailey, notched Denver’s first interception in the second quarter, picking off Pittsburgh QB Dennis Dixon’s pass in the end zone and getting both feet in bounds to complete the takeaway. The fifth‐round selection (137th overall) by the Broncos in the 2010 NFL Draft led the country in pass breakups (19) and recorded a career‐high four interceptions as a senior at Oklahoma State University in 2009. Broncos CB André Goodman returned an interception 77 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter (0:11 remaining in the first half) to give the Broncos a 14‐point cushion entering halftime. Goodman, who is in his second season with the Broncos, led the club with five interceptions and 17 pass breakups in 2009. Denver’s third interception was made by rookie CB Syd’Quan Thompson, who took a QB Charlie Batch throw and returned it 48 yards for a score in the fourth quarter to give the Broncos a 34‐17 lead. MISCELLANEOUS GAME NOTES WR Brandon Lloyd led the team with four receptions (40 yds.), including two catches on third downs that went for first downs... RB Lance Ball led the team with 10 rushes for 75 yards (7.5 avg.), including eight rushes for 71 yards (8.9) avg.) in the second half... WR Brandon Lloyd paced the Broncos with two sacks (15 yds.) on the evening and tied for second on the club with four total tackles... P Britton Colquitt punted four times for a 56.0 average (51.0 net) with a long of 60 and two placed inside the 20. With all four of his punts going for 50‐plus yards, he has now grossed over 50 yards on 9‐of‐13 punts this preseason... Led by Broncos K Matt Prater, who placed all seven of his kickoffs in the end zone with five of them resulting in touchbacks, the Broncos held Pittsburgh to an average start of the 18.9‐yard line after kickoffs... CB Syd’Quan Thompson had a 62‐yard punt return in the fourth quarter that marked Denver’s second‐longest punt return this preseason. Fellow rookie CB Perrish Cox had a 65‐yard punt return vs. Detroit (8/21)... Denver’s first‐team defense, which limited Pittsburgh to three points, has allowed just one touchdown in three games this preseason. .
