Herb Ritts: L.A

HERB RITTS: L.A. Style at The Ringling February 23, 2013 – May 19, 2013 Born in 1952, Herbert (Herb) Ritts first worked in his father’s Los Angeles furniture store before attending Bard College in New York, majoring in economics and art history. He became interested in photography after photographing his friend and then aspiring actor Richard Gere. Borrowing from classical sculpture, his hallmark style was uncluttered frames and clean, crisp lines utilizing light and shadow as form. He became wildly popular in Hollywood during the 1980s and 1990s and photographed mega-stars such as Diane Ross, Michael Jackson, Nicole Kidman, Cher, Elizabeth Taylor, Elton John, Madonna, Steven Hawking and Tina Turner, just to name a few.
