Practical information The Twenty-Fifth Biennial Conference of the Nordic Association for American Studies 1. Venue The conference venue is the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) main campus. The address is: Campusvej 55 When you arrive on campus, simply walk through the main entrance and up the stairs. That will bring you to the main lobby (“Campustorvet”). You will now find the conference section on your left (auditorium 100 and conference rooms 94-99). You can't miss it. 2. Transportation from downtown to SDU SDU is located on the outskirts of Odense and is thus not within easy walking distance of downtown. The easiest way to get to SDU from downtown is to take the bus from Odense Station (Odense Banegårdscenter, OBC). You will find the bus terminal immediately behind the train station. Walk to platform B and take bus no. 41, 42, or 44. On board the bus, information screens will keep you posted on the stops. Get off at the first stop at the university. The ride takes ca. 25-30 minutes. During rush hours, the buses depart every ca. 12 minutes. NB: You will only have to pay for your first bus ride to SDU. The conference package includes a three- day bus pass for all further bus transportation between downtown and SDU. a. Odense City Hall reception, Monday at 19:00 (7 pm) Simply take the regular city bus from campus to downtown (lines no. 41, 42 or 44, NOT 72) and get off at the bus terminal. Odense City Hall is within walking distance of the bus terminal and the hotels. The address is: Odense Rådhus/Odense City Hall Flakhaven 2 b. Egeskov Castle Picnic, Tuesday 10-15 (10 am to 3 pm) Special buses will depart from the parking lot (P1) near the SDU swimming pool at 10:15 am. Student assistants will be on hand to point you in the right direction. The ride to Egeskov Castle takes ca. 40 minutes. The Egeskov Castle picnic includes a lunch. We leave Egeskov Castle again at 14:15 (2:15 pm) and arrive at SDU at ca. 15:00 (3:00 pm). c. Conference dinner at Sortebro Kro (Sortebro Inn) The buses will depart from Radisson Blu Hotel at 19:20 (7:20 pm) and from SDU at ca. 19:40 (7:40 pm) from the parking lot (P1) near the SDU swimming pool. Radisson Blu is within walking distance of all the conference hotels. See the link to relevant map below. The buses will leave Sortebro Kro again at 22:30 (10:30 pm) and head downtown to Radisson Blu. NB: the conference dinner is NOT included in the special graduate/PhD student rate (i.e., for those who have paid 50 Euros). 3. Lunches Lunch (sandwiches and a soft drink) will be served in the conference area Monday and Wednesday. Lunch is also included in the picnic to Egeskov Castle. 4. See also the attached tourist map of Odense. 5. Taxis If you plan to take a cab, you can phone Odense Taxa: +45 66 15 44 15 Danish cabs are fairly expensive, and you can't negotiate the price. A trip between downtown and campus amounts to ca. 160 DKK (ca. 21 Euros or 25 US dollars). Danish cab drivers don't expect tips. 6.
