Well done to Henry Henry received a Jack Petchey award for his hard work and positive impact on his community. Henry is an amazing young boy who has been a volunteer with the Soup Kitchen since it started back in January 2018. Prior to joining the soup kitchen Henry has always had an interest in helping those in need in the Romford area along with his wonderful mum Tracey. Well done Henry we are extremely Hornchurch High school has raised money for the following charities in the last month: HAD Havering Association for people with disability Havering Mind Lennox Children's Cancer trust M.E. (Myalgic encephalomyelitis) Thank you to all who donated Rainbow trust SNAP Brentwood HALFTERM YOUTHSPORT Harrow Lodge Park The Level 2 technical award in Performing Arts Students had their very first theatrical Make up lesson for the new Performing Arts Vocational certificate It was a brilliant success and the work the students created was fantastic. A long standing highlight of our calendar has been the Jack Petchey speak out challenge. Students are taught the skills required for public speaking and are then invited to prepare and deliver a short speech on a subject of their choice. Topics included Mental Illness and beauty, all of our students spoke confidently and passionately about their topic. These sessions do wonders for our students’ self confidence and self esteem, as well as helping them prepare for their Eng- lish speaking exam and fu- ture public speaking. This year Emmanuel Abass reached the Regional Final for the Speak Out Challenge. He represented the school after being chosen from 30 other Year 10 students. His speech was entitled ‘Fly High!’ and the topic was about single parent households. He did amazingly well, remembered his entire 3 minute speech word for word and delivered it with passion, enthusiasm and bravery. He did a sterling job and made the school, Mrs Holmes and his mother very proud. Your co-operation would be greatly appreciated. There is a clear link between poor attendance at school and lower academic achievement – how can your child learn if they are not here? Attendance is important because your child will not make progress if they do not attend school. If your child receives an attendance figure of 90% every year of their school life, they would miss over a whole year of their schooling. We need your help to raise whole school attendance. Any students who arrive late to school or lessons will be issued with a red Late Slip and MUST attend a Late Detention for 30 minutes after school on the SAME day.
