DECEMBER NEWSLETTER OpenAthens Will Be Here December 23rd! What this means for you: When you’re off campus you’ll access library resources with your TouroOne login credentials. Your library card will only be needed to check out physical materials from the library. All links in the TUC Library Catalog and on the Library website have been changed, but all bookmarks and links that you have saved that link directly to a library will need to be updated by you. This includes links on documents such as syllabi, and on platforms such as Canvas. Library will be sending out additional e-mails about the OpenAthens with subject line: TUC OpenAthens Implementation. Please read these e-mails for more details and specifics that you will need to know to access TUC Library eResources. Winter Break Hours The Library will have shorter hours during the upcoming holidays and winter break: Beginning December 20th through January 5th our hours will be: Monday through Thursday – 8 AM to 5 PM Fridays – 8 AM to 4 PM Weekends – CLOSED Following are the exceptions to the above hours: December 24th - Closing at 3 PM December 25th - CLOSED December 31st - Closing at 3 PM January 1st – CLOSED Regular Library hours will resume on Monday, January 6th. Leisure Books in the Library If you’re looking for a way to escape from the stress of school or want to get lost in a good read while away for the holidays, why not check out a leisure book from the library? We have many to choose from, including a selection from the New York Times’s Best Books of 2019, such as: The Dutch House, by Anne Patchett (fiction) The Nickel Boys, by Colson Whitehead (fiction) The Testaments, by Margaret Atwood (fiction) – Also won 2019 Man Booker Award Know My Name, by Chanel Miller (nonfiction) No Visible Bruises: What We Don’t Know About Domestic Violence Can Kill Us, by Rachel Louise Snyder (nonfiction) -- Selected by NYT as one of the 10 best books of 2019 Other prize-winning books in the Library: Educated; A Memoir, by Tara Westover – Selected as one of the 10 best books of 2018 by NYT – has won many awards! The Overstory, by Richard Powers – Pulitzer Prize Winner 2019 Milkman, by Anna Burns – 2019 National Book Critics Circle Award There There, by Tommy Orange – 2019 National Book Critics Circle Award Using DVDs at TUC The new technology set-up in classrooms at TUC no longer have DVD players. If you want to show a DVD, you must put in an IT service ticket to request a DVD player and have a laptop to connect it to. In addition, the PC that will be used must have the VLC Media Player application installed on it. For more information, please contact IT. Get Your Free New York Times Online Subscription! As a TUC affiliate, you can get a free subscription to The New York Times online. Winter break is the perfect time to catch up on everything you may have missed while hitting the books, from politics, to fashion, to the lasts health and science news. All you have to do to accept this gift from the Library is go to the A-Z Databases page on the library website, scroll down to New York Times, click the link, and follow the directions to create an account. Once you do that you can sign into your account from any device. Journal of Applied Psychology Coming in January Starting in January we will have a subscription to the Journal of Applied Psychology, from the American Psychological Association.
