There’s not a better track to celebrate such a historic milestone for this event and our club. The 2013 season has been a milestone season for the Sports Car Club of America’s Club Racing program. In January, the nationwide rollout of the U.S. Majors Tour began in the Eastern and Western Conferences, and quickly spread to the Northern and Mid-States Conferences as the weather al- lowed. By August, we had crowned our f rst full season of Conference Champions. This year’s 50th Runoffs week is another one of those milestones. At the time this guide was printed, the entry list showed that this year’s event would approach the all-time record of starters. Also in dan- ger of falling was the single class Runoffs mark of 60 starters. Whether the records fall or are just approached, those numbers are proof positive that, despite being 50 years old, there’s a lot of life left in the Runoffs. This year’s event features a unique treat, as the SCCA extended invitations to all former National Champions to return to the Runoffs as competitors. Randy Pobst is taking a break from his pro racing schedule, and John Morton and Dave Weitzenhoff are just two drivers who have come out of retire- ment to participate. Others are joining them; it will be fun to see them on track carrying the SafeRacer SCCA National Series banner once again. As we look back on the f rst 50 years, we also say goodbye to an old friend in Road America. Plans have already been announced to start the next 50 years of Runoffs history with a return to the West Coast for the f rst time since 1968 at Riverside. Next year, the Runoffs will visit Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for one year, followed by Daytona International Speedway in 2015 and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in 2016. If you have any additional questions about SCCA Club Racing or the past or future of the SCCA Na- tional Championship Runoffs, please don’t hesitate to ask our Communications department. On behalf of the 60,000 members of the Sports Car Club of America, welcome to history in the mak- ing at the 50th SCCA National Championship Runoffs. Sincerely, Jeff Dahnert President/CEO Sports Car Club of America 4 2013 SCCA® Club Racing Media Guide WHAT IS SCCA®? Sports Car Club of America, Inc. was founded 67 years ago by a group of amateur motorsports enthusiasts and today boasts nearly 45,000 members. SCCA now sanctions more than 2,000 amateur and professional motorsports events each year. With 114 regional chapters covering the entire United States, Guam and Puerto Rico, SCCA provides true grassroots participation and is the largest active motorsports membership organization in the world. Local events at nearby circuits remain the backbone of club activities. SCCA’s volunteer staff provides everything from course marshaling to timing and scoring, at both club and professional events. In addition to Club Racing, SCCA is the home to Pro Racing, RallyCross, Solo and RoadRally, all of which offer a wide variety of amateur and professional motorsports competitions. SCCA Enterprises, a wholly owned subsidiary of SCCA, constructs and maintains two cars, the venerable SCCA Spec Racer Ford, a single-seat sports racer that is one of Club Racing’s most popular classes, as well as the dual purpose Formula Enterprises/Enterprises Sports Racer, now in its seventh year, with Formula Enterprises making its Runoffs debut in 2008. SCCA’s Club Racing program is designed to fulfill the need of the “amateur athlete.” It is a comprehensive, nationwide program featuring races held throughout the year that cater to the driver who perhaps prefers to test his or her skill on a part time basis, rather than compete full-time on SCCA’s professional circuits. Nevertheless, because the competition at the club level is so fierce, many professionals also participate in this program to further hone their skills and compete at SCCA’s National Championship Runoffs. The amateur road racing program is administered by SCCA’s Club Racing Department. A full staff of SCCA personnel handles the needs of the amateur race car driver, developing a full schedule of 240 Regional events, along with approximately 30 Driving Schools, 45 Performance Driving Experience events and another 70 National races. Club Racing is an integral part of SCCA. Nearly half of the membership is involved on the amateur level, either as drivers, crew, workers or officials. More than 8,000 SCCA members hold competition licenses allowing them to compete within SCCA’s Club Racing programs. 2013 SCCA® Club Racing Media Guide 5 SCCA Club Racing National Staff Marketing and Communications Eric Prill - Vice President, Marketing & Communications President & CEO Reece White - Public Relations Manager Jeff Dahnert Chris Berg - Public Relations Coordinator Melissa Flesher - Manager of Marketing Services Executive Assistant Jenny McAbee - Marketing and Communications Specialist Aimee Thoennes Rick Myers - Region Services Manager John Steflik - Creative Director Club Racing Terry Ozment - Vice President, Club Racing Butch Kummer - Director of Club Racing Deanna Flanagan - Club Racing Manager Janet Farwell - Club Racing Manager John Bauer - Club Racing Technical Manager Chris Blum - Club Racing Technical Assistant Finance Rick Ehret - Vice President of Finance Mindi Atchison - Manager of Accounting & Human Resouces Member and Region Services Colan Arnold - Vice President, Membership & Region Services Brian Devilin - Web Application Developer Derek Frakes - Member Services Specialist Kathy Cowen - Member Services Specialist SCCA Club Racing Style Guide First Usage: Sports Car Club of America SCCA® National Championship Runoffs® Second Usage: SCCA SCCA Runoffs Proper Capitalization: SCCA Club Racing SCCA Club Racer National Class Names (Abbreviations): American Sedan® (AS) B-Spec (BSpec) GT-1 (GT1) GT-2 (GT2) C Sports Racing (CSR) GT-3 (GT3) D Sports Racing (DSR) GT-Lite (GTL) E Production (EP) Spec Racer® Ford (SRF) F Production (FP) Spec Miata (SM) H Production (HP) Sports 2000 (S2) Formula Atlantic® (FA) Touring 1 (T1) Formula Continental® (FC) Touring 2 (T2) Formula Mazda (FM) Touring 3 (T3) Formula F (FF) Touring 4 (T4) Formula Vee® (FV) Formula 500 (F500) Super Touring® Under (STU) Formula 1000 (FB) Super Touring® Lite (STL) Formula Enterprises (FE) 6 2013 SCCA® Club Racing Media Guide BFGoodrich Tires In 2011, SCCA announced a multi-faceted partnership with BFGoodrich® Tires naming BFGo- odrich Tires the “Off cial Street Tire” of SCCA and the title sponsor of the newly-formed SCCA Club Racing BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour.
