AND GOLD! I hope everyone is having a great Easter break and with lots of football it makes it even better. Today we welcome Palmerston North Marist and coach Shane Rufer. Shane played 28 times for Stop Out scoring 9 goals. Two losses for Palmerston isn’t the start they’d have been after but it’s early days in the Central League. Of course both clubs have subsequently SHANE RUFER played on Good Friday before this programme was produced so it adds interest to another tough APPEARANCES: 28 encounter. 1979 - 22 1980 - 6 For us sitting top is nice but many would say it was dropped points against Team Taranaki. GOALS: 9 The one saving grace for us playing Lower Hutt 1979 - 7 on Good Friday is that our game against Team 1980 - 2 Taranaki was a very good dress rehearsal for a team that is busy, combative and direct. 1979 GOALS AGAINST vs Dunedin City 01/04 Caledonian We’ve had a good record against Palmerston vs Courier Rangers 08/04 TeWhiti North Marist since our return to Central League vs Manawatu United 16/04 TeWhiti but every game in this league is competitive so vs Mt Wellington 25/04 TeWhiti expect a ding dong battle and it’s hard not to be vs North Shore United 06/05 TeWhiti impressed with Micky’s goal scoring feats. vs Wellington United 02/06 Newtown Park vs Eastern Suburbs 02/09 TeWhiti As you’ll also note in the programme our Capital 1 and Capital 4 teams both fresh from promotion 1980 GOALS AGAINST have made positive starts to their campaign. A slight change to our 3rds, and introducing more vs Rangers 23/03 Rangers youth this year has helped our player pathway vs Wellington United 30/03 Hutt Raceway model. There is now a clear link from youth into senior football for our stars of the future. What’s fascinating is almost 38 years to the day Shane scored the winner in the game against Enjoy the football and enjoy our Stop Out Manawatu United at Te Whiti Park. hospitality. The pitch was looking in great nick despite the heavy rain during the week, so Jase and Andrei were looking for a similar performance against their former club. Andrei Gilbert has joined the club to become the Reserve Team Manager, and he brings a wealth of experience from his days as Island Bay First Team Manager. The Reserve Team were bolstered by the boys held strong, weathering the storm before appearances of first team squad members James once again establishing dominance.
