1 iMovie, QuickTime Pro, or Final Cut (Mac) How to Prepare Your Video for Streaming Note: The settings included in this document are the preferred streaming video settings within ITS. These settings help to maintain video and audio quality while keeping the file size small. You are welcome to use other settings to prepare your video. The only settings that are required for use with the streaming server are those pertaining to the “Preparing for Internet Streaming” section. Preparing Your Video for Streaming To enable your video file for streaming: 1. Open your project or video in your preferred digital video program. 2. Click on the [File] menu, and select [Export…] Note: Depending on which program you are using, you may need to select an export setting such as [Using QuickTime Conversion] –(if in iMovie or Final Cut) or [Move to QuickTime Movie] – (if in QuickTime Pro). 3. Enter a name for your video in the [Save As:] field. 4. Select a location for your video from the [Where:] drop-down menu. 5. Select [QuickTime Movie] from the [Format:] drop-down menu. 6. Click the [Options…] button. The [Movie Settings] window will appear. 7. If it is not already selected, click the check box to the left of [Video]. 2 8. Click the [Settings…] button under the [Video] heading. The [Standard Video Compression Settings] window will appear. 9. Select [H.264] from the [Compression Type:] drop-down menu. 10. Select [24] from the drop-down menu to the right of the [Frame Rate:] under the [Motion] heading. 11. Click the radio button to the left of [Every] under the [Key Frames] heading, and enter [15] into the text box to the left of [frames]. 12. Select the check box to the left of [Frame Reordering]. 13. Adjust the [Data Rate] settings by clicking the radio button to the left of [Restrict to] and enter [270] in to the text box to the left of [kbits/sec]. 14. Select [Streaming] from the [Optimized for:] drop-down menu. 15. Confirm that the [Quality] setting under the [Compressor] heading is set to [High]. 16. Select the radio button for [Best Quality (Multi-pass)], to the right of the [Encoding:] field to ensure a high-quality export. 17. Click the [OK] button. You will be redirected to the [Movie Settings] window. 18. Click the [Size…] button beneath the [Video] heading. The [Export Size Settings] dialogue box appears. 19. Select [320 x 240 QVGA] from the [Dimensions:] drop-down menu. 20. Select the check box to the left of [Preserve aspect ratio using:] and then select one of the following options: a. Letterbox 3 b. Crop c. Fit Within Dimensions Note: This option may not be necessary depending on the original size of your video. 21. Select the check box to the left of [Deinterlace Source Video]. 22. Click the [OK] button. You will be redirected to the [Movie Settings] window. 23. If it is not already selected, click the check box to the left of [Sound]. 24. Click the [Settings…] button under the [Sound] heading. The [Sound Settings] dialogue box appears. 25. Select [AAC] from the [Format:] drop-down menu. 26. Select [Mono] from the [Channels:] drop-down menu. 27. Select [32.000] from the [Rate:] drop-down menu. 28. Click the check box to the left of [Show Advanced Settings]. 29. Select [Best] from the [Quality:] drop-down menu. 30. Seelct [Average Bit Rate] from the [Encoding Strategy:] drop-down menu. 31. Select [64] from the [Target Bit Rate:] drop-down menu. Note: If you would like to hear a preview of your audio, click the [Preview] button, otherwise continue to the next step. 32. Click the [OK] button. You will be redirected to the [Movie Settings] window. 33. If it is not already selected, click the check box to the left of [Prepare for Internet Streaming]. 4 34. Select [Hinted Streaming] from the drop-down menu. 35. Click the [Settings…] button under the [Prepare for Internet Streaming] heading. 36. The [Hint Exporter Settings] window will appear. 37. Click the check box to the left of [Optimize Hints For Server (creates larger file)]. 38. Click the [Tracker Hinter Settings…] button. The [RTP Track Settings] window will appears 39. Click the radio button to the left of [Use native encoding if possible]. 40. Select [1450] from the [Packet Size Limit (bytes):] drop-down menu. 41. Select [100] from the [Packet Duration Limit (ms):] drop-down menu. 42. Click the [OK] button. You will be redirected to the Streaming [Settings] window. 43. Click [OK] once more to go back to the [Video Settings] window. 44. Click [OK] one last time to go back to the [Save Exported File As…] window. 45. Click [Save]. The [Exporting project] window will appear. Note: When the [Exporting project] window disappears, the process is complete. Your video will be saved to your specified location. .
