Gyoko T. Saito, head of the Higashi Hongwanji Mission of Hawai'i, died March 10 in Honolulu. He was 73. Saito was born in Kumamoto, Japan, on July 6, 1927. At age 17, he joined the Japan military academy and trained to become an army officer.
