PRODUCT INFORMATION Oxipurinol Item No. 18716 CAS Registry No.: 2465-59-0 Formal Name: 1H- pyrazolo[3, 4- d] pyrimidine- 4, 6(5H, 7H) - dione O H Alloxanthine, NSC 76239 Synonyms: N MF: C5H4N4O2 N FW: 152.1 O N Purity: ≥95% N H Stability: ≥2 years at -20°C H Supplied as: A crystalline solid UV/Vis.: λmax: 254 nm Laboratory Procedures For long term storage, we suggest that oxipurinol be stored as supplied at -20°C. It should be stable for at least two years. Oxipurinol is supplied as a crystalline solid. A stock solution may be made by dissolving the oxipurinol in the solvent of choice. Oxipurinol is soluble in the organic solvent DMSO, which should be purged with an inert gas, at a concentration of approximately 3 mg/ml. Oxipurinol is sparingly soluble in aqueous buffers. For maximum solubility in aqueous buffers, oxipurinol should first be dissolved in DMSO and then diluted with the aqueous buffer of choice. Oxipurinol has a solubility of approximately 0.1 mg/ml in a 1:10 solution of DMSO:PBS (pH 7.2) using this method. We do not recommend storing the aqueous solution for more than one day. Description Oxipurinol is the active metabolite of allopurinol (Item No. 10012597), an inhibitor of xanthine oxidoreductase.1,2 Compared to allopurinol, oxipurinol has lower oral bioavailability but longer half-life in plasma due to renal reabsorption.1,2 Like allopurinol, oxipurinol has applications in gout and hyperuricemia as well as various ischemic and inflammatory diseases in animals and clinical trials.1 References 1.
