The sector has been showing upward trajectory over the years in terms of production and rearing practices. Death and diseases amongst the flocks constitute one of the most important challenges before us. The Deputy Director of Research is committed to documenting research in various areas including livestock production and disease. I am pleased to present the inaugural issue of Animal Science Quarterly and invite all professionals across the disciplines and both development departments to contribute their research and reviews. Director Sheep Husbandry Department Kashmir SHEEP HUSBANDRY DEPARTMENT (KASHMIR) FROM THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR’S DESK It gives me joy to present this inaugural issue of Animal Science Quarterly, the first of its kind in the history of the Department. Though we have phenomenal legacy of successes in both development departments to make us proud, we have so far failed to document great data base collected by workers and the efforts made in the past and currently being made to meet various challenges in the sector. Given increasing productivity has been our vision and policy in which we have made great strides, the need of the hour is to assess current scenario and future prospect in fulfilling huge consumer demand while taking cognizance of challenges from diverse diseases, especially emerging and re-emerging diseases and the gap between potential and actual in lot of production parameters and industrial uses. This journal seeks to provide a platform for all professionals to document their work and new ideas.
