Faith at Home Parent Handout 10/13/19

When children and parents have faith discussions regularly, faith multiplies. Faith at Home Parent Handout 10/13/19 Theme of the Sunday: The 3rd Gospel of the New Testament – The Gospel Of Luke Verse of the Sunday: Gospel of Luke Message/Moral of the day: Today we will focus on the Gospel of Luke. Luke was a doctor, and perhaps his training as a doctor taught him to write down important details. His book tells the most detailed stories and teachings of Jesus than any other book. The Gospel of Luke is extremely compelling. Luke is the longest Gospel and the longest book in the New Testament! Luke wants his readers to know that Jesus came to save not just the Jews but all people of the world. Here are 5 interesting facts about the Gospel of Luke: 1. The Gospel of Luke covers Jesus’ boyhood, something no other book does. 2. It is the only Gospel that tells the story of the birth of John the Baptist. (Luke 1:13) 3. Luke is the only Gospel written by a Gentile (non-Jewish person). Although still debated, it is traditionally accepted that Luke was a Greek and was also the author of the Book of Acts, (traditionally considered one work - the Book of Acts being a sequel to the Gospel of Luke). 4. Luke was a physician. In the 4th chapter of Paul’s letter to the Colossians (4:14), Paul calls Luke a doctor. Luke also uses “medical language” in Acts 28:8. Luke was a beloved doctor. He not only healed people as his job, but the words in his gospel heal our hearts when we read them. Luke was not only a doctor of the body, but he was also a healer of the soul! Jesus was also a healer. We know that Jesus healed the sick by performing miracles, like when he healed the blind man. But Jesus also healed with his Words and His teachings, especially those He taught in the parables. Faith at Home: • Compare the job of a Doctor with the ministry of the Priest. Body healing vs. Soul healing • Discuss how important it is for you and your children to always take care of your bodies and souls equally. • Share stories how a Doctor and/or a Priest helped you or a family member. • Learn a basic way to treat a wound, or a twisted ankle. • Learn to pray for someone else. Say a prayer for a sick person. Prayer & Worship: Heavenly Father, drive away from me all forms of sickness and disease. Restore strength to my body and joy to my spirit, so that in my renewed health, I may bless and serve you, now and forevermore. Amen. We pray to you Heavenly Father, together with your Son and the Holy Spirit, now and always. Amen Liturgical Calendar: Holy Translators The Feast of the Holy Translators (Սուրբ Թարգմանչաց տօն) is dedicated to a group of literary figures, and saints of the Armenian Apostolic Church, who founded the Armenian alphabet, translated the Bible, and started a movement of writing and translating important works into Armenian language. The Holy Translators are: Mesrop Mashtots, Gregory of Narek, Movses Khorenatsi, Yeghishe, David the Invincible, Nerses IV the Gracious. The translation of the Bible was finished by the Holy Translators in 425. The first words written in Armenian were the opening line of the Book of Proverbs: «Ճանաչել զիմաստութիւն եւ զխրատ, իմանալ զբանս հանճարոյ: » “To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding.” Proverbs 1:2. .
