All stuDents attenDing these courses will be given a transcript after the completion of the required components of the course. It is up to the students to obtain the recognition of these creDits from their home institutions. Apart from the acaDemic courses, an interesting cultural activity programme is also included in this International Summer School. So take advantage of this programme and take a course in Macau this summer. 3 International Summer School -2014 International Summer School 2014 AcaDemic MoDule Systematic Creativity for Business Innovation – 30 hours A culture of systematic creativity and innovation is essential in the development of products and services, based on Innovation. It is contemporarily acknowledged as a competitive advantage to a wide range of activities and organizations as a way to increase performance, productivity and Business. This workshop introduces concepts and theories to foster creativity and Innovation in the context of Business Development. Following a multidisciplinary approach, known as Design Thinking, participants will use a set of tools and methods to promote innovation through the combination of multiple experiences and perspectives. The workshop addresses Systematic Creativity as a: • Practice to foster innovation • Human centred process • Solution based problem-solving tool • Way of improving existing products or conditions • Mean of dealing with complex social and cultural problems • Holistic and interdisciplinary endeavor • Method do develop a business plan • Practical approach to communicate and present ideas effectively 4 International Summer School -2014 AcaDemic Instructors Alvaro Barbosa Álvaro Barbosa (Angola 1970) is an Associate Professor anD Dean of Faculty of Creative Industries at University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in Macau SAR, China. Prior to this position, He was the acting director of the Sound and Image Department at the School of Arts from the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP-Porto) until September 2012, co-founding in 2004 the Research Center for Science and Technology of the Arts (CITAR), in 2009 the Creative Business Incubator ARTSpin and in 2011 the Digital Creativity Center (CCD). He also promoted several new innovative curricula such as the PhD Program in Science anD Technology of the Arts, the Master Program in Creative InDustries Management and the Post-Graduation Degrees in Photography and Digital Design. Holding a PhD degree in Computer Science and Digital Communication from Pompeu Fabra University in Spain and a Graduate Degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Aveiro University in Portugal, his academic activity is mainly focused on the field of Design foir Audio and Music Technology, in which he worked for five years as an Resident Researcher at the Barcelona Music Technology Group (MTG). His recent R&D work, on experimental Network Music and Interactive Sound-Design Systems, was largely fostered in 2010 during a Post-Doctoral Research Position at StanforD University in the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). His projects, in collaboration with other artists and researchers, have been extensively presented and performed internationally, with special emphasis in Sound and Music Design pieces, Collaborative Interactive Installations, Live Electronic Music, Computer Animation short-film, Design Thinking and Systematic Creativity. Ricardo Rato RicarDo Rato has worked at the University of Saint Joseph since 2008. First as a Visiting Lecturer in the Faculty of Business, Government and Social Work, then as a full-time Senior Lecturer and, since 2011, as Registrar. Ricardo completed his PhD in Business Administration at USJ in 2013. His main research area is wellbeing at work, an area where he has published in several peer-reviewed publications. Before working in academia, Ricardo had worked in a leading Duty Free company and in the Human Resources sector, as a founding partner of one of the first Recruitment firms in Macau. Over the years, Ricardo has also worked as a consultant for companies in the education, publishing, utility, gaming, transports and consumer product sectors in Macau and Hong Kong. From 2010 to 2012, Ricardo was also the President of the Fiscal Committee of naTera, a local NGO with operations in Macau and East Timor. 5 International Summer School -2014 Language anD Culture Component Portuguese Language anD Culture – 30 hours The offered course will deepen student’s Portuguese language and culture based on the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It will primarily allow holders of proficiency level A1 to proceed in learning the language and getting to know some of the specifics of the Portuguese culture. This last point will be achieved with the use of texts by Portuguese authors, contact with some popular traditions present in the study of proverbs and idioms, as well as the introduction
