Hennick with Canadian Horatio Alger Scholars in Toronto, Ontario. 2 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS OVERVIEW The Horatio Alger Association of Canada has awarded more than $7.1 million in scholarships to more than 1,100 hardworking students across the country. Recipients of these awards are rewarded for persevering through adversities while committing to academic excellence and serving their communities. The Association focuses on helping these young people pursue their dreams through higher education, which changes the trajectory of their and their families’ lives forever. Hennick. 4 SCHOLAR SUPPORT SERVICES In addition to scholarship support, the Association offers a number of services and opportunities to Horatio Alger Scholars, including: • ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: All Scholars who have graduated from college become part of the Alumni community and are eligible for opportunities such as graduate grants and Alumni regional gatherings. Alumni Scholars also give back by providing a diverse range of supports for Scholars such as career connections, care packages, and personalized letters. • CAREER SUPPORT: Internship stipends allow Scholars to take advantage of unpaid internships; externships provide short-term experiential learning opportunities provided by Member or Alumni organizations, and career mentoring is supported through the Association’s online networking platform. • COLLEGE READINESS: Information is delivered to Scholars through online curriculum to prepare them for their first year of post-secondary education. Topics are varied, but include mental health support and awareness, note-taking
