Five BIA students completed the final requirements of the 18-month Technical Fire Management Program (TFM) in April. TFM is an academic program designed to improve the technical proficiency of fire and natural resource management specialists. This equipment must then be flown off the monument in sling loads. Because of windy conditions during the backhaul operation, all of the cargo gear (nets, swivels, and lead lines) had to be hiked up to the sling site on the top of the monument. Over 30 loads of cleaning apparatus (pressure washers, hose, rope, barrels, and planking) were airlifted during the operation.
