DATA BECKERs Goldene Serie Das große Schriftenpaket 2.500 Data Becker Golden Series: The Big Font Collection 2500 Fonts In the report "The Funny Font Forging Industry" designed for prosecutors and criminal court judges, I described, how Bruno Steinert forged the "Akzidenz-Grotesk" by the "Linotype Method". This "Linotype Method" was also applied in the case of the Data Becker Font CD containing 2500 fonts which were forged such that the original font names or font trademarks of all the 2500 fonts were entirely erased and replaced by forged font names (e.g. "Peter Becker" as forged name instead of the true name or trademark "Futura". See the file DBPER.TTF on the Data Becker Font CD). The Data Becker CD declares "© 2004 Data Becker GmbH", but the file dates of the fonts are 1999-2000. The following list is sorted by the "sources" contained in the "copyright notices" of the 2500 forged fonts. It is interesting that Data Becker quotes in the CD booklet the "Will Software GmbH" as the font source, although this company is never mentioned in any of the 2500 "copyright notices", so that it is very likely that the "copyright notices" have been forged too. But I have no time to analyse all 2500 forged fonts. This is the job of font forging experts at criminal courts. The Data Becker CD contains a manual as PDF file ("Handbuch.pdf"). But Data Becker was of opinion that none of the 2500 forged fonts was suitable for typesetting the manual, and hence none of the forged fonts was used by Data Becker in the "Handbuch.pdf". So, Data Becker does not use its own forged fonts, but it expects that the suckers who waste money by buying the Data Becker CD use these forged fonts. Data Becker GmbH & Co. KG in Düsseldorf/Germany is run by Dr. Achim Becker und Harald Becker, who devised a very strange and bizarre plan to replace the names or trademarks of renowned fonts by the names of relatives and ancestors of the Becker family clan: Andrea Becker, Anita Becker, Angela Becker, Anna Becker, Astrid Becker, etc., and Adam Becker, Andreas Becker, Arnold Becker, Arthur Becker etc.: • For example, Dr. Achim Becker and Harald Becker erased the well-known "Futura" by Paul Renner and replaced it by "Peter Becker". • For example Dr. Achim Becker and Harald Becker deleted the renowned "Kabel" by Rudolf Koch and replaced it by "Victor Becker", etc. etc. etc. I would like to know, how a psychiatrist in an asylum for lunatics interprets this very bizarre behaviour. In the report for legal authorities "The Funny Font Forging Industry" I also demonstrated to prosecutors, how Robin Nicholas and Patricia Saunders forged the typeface Helvetica by the "Monotype Method". This "Monotype Method" was also applied in the case of the Data Becker Font CD to a lot of fonts which were forged by modifying a few typical letters of the original fonts in order to make it extremely difficult for criminal investigators, public prosecutors and criminal court judges to identify these forged typefaces. Usually it is sufficient to forge only one or two typical or characteristic letters by the Monotype method. Thereafter ordinary typeface identifying programs are not longer able to identify the forged font: 1 Example: Data Becker Font Forgery "Christian Becker" 1234567890$&? ABCDEFGHI J KLM NOPQ RSTUVWXYZ abcdefghi j klm nopqr s tuvwxyz Step (0): We start the font identifying programme at the website http://www.identifont.com/identify.html, also available at http://www.linotype.com. At the Identifont homepage "Identify a font" we see this: Step (1): We always consult the above character map of the Data Becker font forgery "Christian Becker" and we select alternative "Touches the circle". This selection is emphasized below by a grey dotted box: 2 Step (2): We select "J below baseline". This selection is again emphasized below by a grey dotted box: Step (3): We select "Closed" (= closed counter of P): 3 Step (4): We select "Strokes have spiked/slab ends (serifs)": Step (5): We select "Serif or cusp on left (of capital A): 4 Step (6): We select "No stem" (= capital "U" has no rightward pointing stem): Step (7): We select "Parallel verticals" (= M has parallel verticals): 5 Step (8): We select "Above the baseline" (= Middle vertex of M is above the baseline) Step (9): We select "Open" (= 4 is open): 6 Step (10): Here all of a sudden, we are asked the strange question: "Do the characters look handwritten?", and we select: "Not sure", because we begin to recognize that the font identifying programme was taken for a ride by the font forgery "Christian Becker". Step (11): We select "Curves round - similar to lower curve": Result of the Identifying Programme (see next page!): Big surprise! The font identification programme has been taken for a ride and presents a completeley different font, namely the Indian font "ITC Simran". At last we are convinced that Dr. Achim Becker and Harald Becker forged an original font and are selling this forged font with the forged font name "Christian Becker". 7 After a more systematic study of the font forgery "Christian Becker", I discovered that the font forgers Dr. Achim Becker and Harald Becker (or the font forgers to whom they had delegated the job of forging) had forged only two capital letters, namely these: Question: Which original typeface was forged by Dr. Achim Becker and Harald Becker for making their font forgery which they called "Christian Becker"? Answer: You can now easily find the solution yourself, if you start again the font identifying programme and if you specify the true characteristics of the original non-forged Q and of the original non-forged J.
