Greater Brighton Economic Board Annual Report 2018/19 July 2019 Greater Brighton Economic Board | Annual Report 2018/19 The Greater Brighton City Region covers the local Greater Brighton Economic Board Members authority areas of Adur, Brighton & Hove, Crawley, Lewes, Mid Sussex and Worthing. 6 Local Authorities Key assets include a growing international airport, a major Adur District Council Brighton & Hove City Council road and rail transport corridor to London, two universities, Crawley Borough Council Lewes District Council and unique natural capital including the coast, South Downs Mid Sussex District Council Worthing Borough Council National Park and the UNESCO Biosphere. The overarching aim of the Board is to protect and grow the 3 Business Partnerships economy, by co-ordinating economic development activities and investment at City Region level. By joining together Adur & Worthing Business Partnership Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership places and working collaboratively to build on the area’s Coastal West Sussex Partnership economic assets and unblock its barriers, the City Region will be able to fulfil its economic potential to become one of the United Kingdom’s top performing urban economies. 2 Universities Since being formed, the Board has helped to secure more University of Brighton than £200 million of investment into the City Region. This University of Sussex money is delivering real benefit across the Greater Brighton region, ranging from the construction of new flood defences in Shoreham and Newhaven, to building world-class Further Education College educational facilities at the University of Brighton and GBMet Greater Brighton Metropolitan College (GBMet) College. The funding has helped create, or set in chain plans for, 24,000 jobs, build 18,000 homes and unlocked £2 billion Local Enterprise Partnership in private sector investment.
