Bovo, Jr. and Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz. _______________________________ Abigail Price-Williams County Attorney APW/uw 1 October 6, 2020 5(I) 2 Approved Mayor Agenda Item No. 5(I) Veto __________ 10-6-20 Override __________ RESOLUTION NO. ________________________ RESOLUTION CODESIGNATING THAT PORTION OF SW 117TH AVENUE BETWEEN SW 40TH STREET (BIRD ROAD) AND SW 24TH STREET (CORAL WAY) AS “ÁLVARO URIBE WAY” BY A THREE-FIFTHS VOTE OF BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT WHEREAS, Álvaro Uribe served as President of the Republic of Colombia (“Colombia”) from 2002 to 2010; and WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is the County with the highest number of Colombian- Americans in the United States; and WHEREAS, Colombian-Americans are the second largest Hispanic population in Miami- Dade County; and WHEREAS, during his time as President, Álvaro Uribe worked closely with both the George W. Bush and Clinton administrations; and WHEREAS, during his tenure as President of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe was viewed as a strong ally to the United States; and WHEREAS, this Board would like to recognize the impact that the Colombian-American population has had on Miami-Dade County by codesignating that portion of 117th Avenue between SW 40th Street (Bird Road) and SW 24th Street (Coral Way) as “Álvaro Uribe Way”; and WHEREAS, that portion of SW 117th Avenue between SW 40th Street (Bird Road) and SW 24th Street (Coral Way) is a County-maintained road located in unincorporated Miami-Dade County; and 3 Agenda Item No. 5(I) Page No. 2 WHEREAS, this proposed codesignation is located in County Commission District 10; and WHEREAS, rule 9.02(d) of the Board’s Rules of Procedure provides that the Commission may by a three-fifths vote of Board members present name a County road, facility or property after a living individual who has not served as an elected official within the past five years and who “has made a direct, significant lifetime contribution to this community,” NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Finds that Álvaro Uribe has made direct, significant lifetime contributions to this community pursuant to rule 9.02(d). Section 2. Having considered this matter at a public hearing and by a three-fifths vote of Board members present, codesignates that portion of SW 117th Avenue between SW 40th Street (Bird Road) and SW 24th Street (Coral Way) as “Álvaro Uribe Way”. Section 3. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Department of Transportation and Public Works, the Development Services Division of the Regulatory and Economic Resources Department, the Miami-Dade Police Department, and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department. The Prime Sponsor of the foregoing resolution is Senator Javier D. Souto and the Co- Sponsors are Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr., and Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz. offeredIt by Commissioner , who moved its adoption. Suarez The Chairperson thereupon declared the resolution duly passed and adopted this 6st day of October, 2020. This resolution shall become effective upon the earlier of (1) 10 days after the date of its adoption unless vetoed by the County Mayor, and if vetoed, shall become effective only upon an override by this Board, or (2) approval by the County Mayor of this Resolution and the filing of this approval with the Clerk of the Board.
