I TO CM' CL.-7B( ! t 1_ /g_1/67-si RESOLUTION 6G:j. .$)TED WHEREAS, the 2014 National Football League (NFL) season, the 95th season in the history of the NFL is set to begin Thursday, September 4, 2014, with the annual kickoff game featuring the defending Super Bowl Champions Seattle Seahawks hosting the Green Bay Packers; and WHEREAS, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the NFL's last season in Los Angeles when the Rams and Raiders began their final season in Southern California, and since then, the nation's #2 market has watched its #1 sport from afar; and WHEREAS, this year also celebrates the 30th anniversary of the 1983 Los Angeles Raiders super bowl victory, the world champions, with a team that was dominated by great members of the Los Angeles community — including Hall of Famer Michael Haynes (John Marshall High School), Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Allen (USC) , Rod Martin (Hamilton High School, LACC, USC), Odis McKinney (Reseda High School), James Davis (Crenshaw High School), Mike Davis (Locke High School), Greg Townsend (Dominguez High School), Dave Dalby (UCLA), Dokie Williams (UCLA); and WHEREAS, Los Angeles is the entertainment capital and media mecca of the nation, has a massive amount of corporations, and is the single most exciting market out there without an NFL team; and WHEREAS, it is yet another year for Los Angeles locals to not have a local team to root for on Sundays (and occasionally Thursdays and Mondays); and WHEREAS, Los Angeles was once the professional football home for, among others, the Los Angeles Rams (1946-1979), the Los Angeles Chargers (1960), Los Angeles Raiders (1982-1994); and WHEREAS, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recently said, "We know there are millions of fans who want a team there, and we would love to do that, but it has to be successful"; and WHEREAS, the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's brother lives in the district under the jurisdiction of the author of this resolution; and WHEREAS, it is a positive move for a franchise in Los Angeles, as it would be a very profitable enterprise and is expected to be enormously successful, bringing both economic and social benefits; and WHEREAS, a football team in the City is in the interest of the NFL, the City, and the nation; and WHEREAS, all the people—especially the young people—in the City of Los Angeles deserve a National Football League team; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that by adoption of this Resolution, the Council of the City of Los Angeles reaffirms and reiterates its support, in light of the upcoming football season, for the efforts for MCO the National Football League to bring its franchise back to the City of Los Angeles. ammo PRESENTED BY E 4th District AUG 2 9 20(4 SECONDED BY.
