It can be listening to a song that we shouldn’t listen to, or hearing bad language, or being around kids who aren’t being respectful Introduction to their teacher. Introduction How do we make sure that we don’t get affected by these negative or inappropriate surroundings? How can we make sure that we feel confident enough to stand up against these influences? The Torah tell us how to stay above it all. Speak to the entire Jewish community saying, on the Torah tenth day of this month (Nissan), each man should take a lamb for each family, a lamb for each household. The above posuk describes how Chumash Hashem told Moshe and Aron to tell the Yidden to take a lamb on the tenth day of Nissan for the korban Pesach. Rashi tells us that the Yidden were bare of any mitzvos and were completely immersed and involved in serving avodah zora. In order to pull them out of the negativity they were seeped in, Hashem gave them a general mitzva, the mitzva of the korban Pesach. The mitzva of the korban Pesach embodies all the mitvos lo sasei because the animal used for the korban, the sheep, was worshipped by the Mitzrayim. By the Yidden using the icon of the Mitzriyim’s avoda zora as a korban for Hashem 2 they were demonstrating that although they were immersed in avoda zora until then, they recognized that it was meaningless and were committing to Hashem. No longer סור would they do what He doesn’t want them to do. From now on they’d live a life of .a life in which they work hard to be removed from any bad ,מרע a sheep for a household” in our posuk teach us that the mitzva— ׂשֶ ה ְ ל בֵ י ת“ The words of korban Pesach included children under the age of Bar and Bas Mitzvah just as it included adults, because they are part of the “household.” The Gemora tells us something special about the Jewish children born in Mitzrayim. Since there were decrees against Yiddishe babies, they were miraculously looked after by malachim. During childbirth, a malach was there helping the mother. The malachim would also provide the babies with nourishment—honey and oil from a rock! Once the babies grew up, they returned their own families. When it came to Kriyas Yam Suf, it was these children who were looked after Because they were .”הם יכרוהו תחילה—by malachim that “recognized Him first accustomed to experiencing miracles done by Hashem, they were able to proclaim ” .This is my G-d” with certainty and knowledge from before—זה קלי A LAMB FOR A HOUSE The Jewish people performed a very important mitzva on the night of the fifteenth of Nisan. They gathered in their homes to eat the korban Pesach, the roasted lamb. It was this mitzva of korban Rebbe Pesach that prompted Hashem to “jump over” the houses of the ”.ּופָ ַֽסחְּתִ י “—Jewish people Hashem did not only jump over the houses, He also passed over all the difficulties that stood in the way of the geula. He brought the redemption from golus Mitzrayim right away. There is an important difference between the mitzva of korban Pesach and other mitzvos. Other mitzvos are commanded to the adults and children over the age of bar or bas mitzva. (Children perform mitzvos only because they are being trained to do them.) But for the mitzva of korban Pesach, Hashem commanded that there must be “a lamb for a household” which includes the children equally. 3 When the father obtained the lamb for the korban Pesach, he had to have in mind all of his children, from the oldest to the very youngest. All the members of the family, including the children, had to eat the korban Pesach on the first night of Pesach. Only then was the mitzva done properly. Why did the children have an equal share in the mitzva of korban Pesach? Chazal teach us that when the Jewish people stood at the Yam Suf, it was the children Since they were born and looked after ”הם היכרוהו תחילה—who “recognized Him first in a miraculous way, they were accustomed experiencing miracles from Hashem. Not only at the Yam Suf, but while the Jewish people were still in Mitzrayim, the children demonstrated a special closeness to Hashem. They accepted Hashem’s mitzvos more readily than the adults did. Even though they were born and raised in golus, they resolved to do the will of Hashem by performing His mitzvos and studying His Torah. For this reason, the children had an equal share in the mitzva of korban Pesach. What can the children of Tzivos Hashem learn from the children vvvv who left Mitzrayim? Just as the Jewish children of long ago took part in the Lesson preparations for yetziyas Mitzrayim in a special way, so must the Jewish children of today take a leading role in preparing for the geula from our golus. By acting as Jewish children are supposed to, they will bring the geula through Moshiach Tzidkeinu b’karov mamash, very very soon. Soldiers! Don’t give in to the enemy who tells you to do things Hashem doesn’t want you to do. Stand tall, stand proud, stand strong, and you won’t be affected from negative surroundings. B’chein Don’t think you’re too small! You, children in Tzivos Hashem, are the ones who will bring the Geula! Yes chayolim! You can do it! Don’t give in, stick to your guns, and you won’t be affected. 4 English Sicha The Jewish people performed a very important mitzva on the night of the fifteenth of Nisan.
