Also, between K and density ( ) of the minerals in some dense forsterite, Mg2SiO4, is known as the most important hydrous silicate minerals (Fig. 1). mineral in the Earth′s mantle. Forsterite and the humite minerals constitute the polysomatic series. The humite Table 1. A single crystal of norbergite × × µ 3 Per [13] (60 50 40 m in size) was mounted in a modified 160 Merrille-Bassett type diamond anvil cell with a small Sp.hy-B [12] piece of a ruby crystal, which used for the pressure Ph A [8] 140 Sp.hy-B [11] calibration. The 4:1 fluid mixture of methanol and CD [6] Fo [10] ethanol was used for the pressure medium and a SUS301 CD [16] 120 OH-CH [3] Fo [9] stainless plate used for a gasket. Pressure was determined OH-CD [3] CD [4] OH-CD [16] CD [5] by the ruby fluorescence method [2]. The wavelength of This study synchrotron radiation was calibrated by the unit cell 100 Ph A [15] Ph A [7] volume of the ruby standard crystal at ambient Ph E [14] λ temperature ( =0.7004 Å for 0.5, 3.1, 4.2 and 5.4 GPa; Bulk modulus (GPa) 80 λ=0.7002 Å for 4.7 and 6.3 GPa; (λ=0.6989 Å for 0.0001, 7.6 and 8.2 GPa). The X-ray diffraction were measured 60 using an automated four-circle X-ray diffractometer Br [2] installed at the beam line BL-10A, Photon Factory, High Br [1] 40 Energy Accelerator Research Organization. The unit cell 2.20 2.40 2.60 2.80 3.00 3.20 3.40 3.60 3.80 parameters of norbergite were determined from 25 Density (g/cm3) centered reflections in the 2θ range between 12.5° and 30.9° under all high-pressure conditions. Figure 1. The relationship between density and bulk modulus in some dense hydrous silicate minerals. Results The unit cell parameters of norbergite at each pressure References condition were listed in Table 1. The axial linear [1] B. Wunder, Contrib. Mineral.
