Various Activities in Remembrance of King Rama IX and King Rama V (12/10/2018) The Government is scheduled to hold merit-making ceremonies and other activities to mark the death anniversaries of two kings His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and His Majesty King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) on 13 October and 23 October. These special events are meant to provide opportunities for the people to show their gratitude and loyalty to the two monarchs, who greatly contributed to the Kingdom and are always deeply revered by the people. On 13 October 2018, which marks the death anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol, an alms-giving ceremony will be held at the Royal Plaza in Bangkok at 06.15 hr. This event will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony in front of the portrait of King Bhumibol at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground at 09.00 hr. The Government invites members of the public to light candles in front of their house at the same time as the candle-lit ceremony at Sanam Luang. On this occasion, all temples in Bangkok will hold prayer sessions. The alms-giving ceremony, the wreath-laying ceremony, the candle-lit ceremony, as well as prayer sessions will also be arranged in all provinces nationwide. Thai embassies and consulates overseas will hold activities as appropriate, as well. On 23 October 2018, which marks King Chulalongkorn Memorial Day, an alms-giving ceremony will be held at the Royal Plaza at 06.45 hr. A wreath-laying ceremony to pay homage to King Chulalongkorn will take place at the Royal Plaza at 08.00 hr. A candle-lit ceremony in remembrance of King Chulalongkorn will be held at Sanam Luang at 19.00 hr.
