Innovation Expo 2021 Webinar Series May 2021 Webinar (in Cantonese) Innovative Construction: ArchSD’s Journey, Quarantine Camps and Hong Kong Infection Control Centre Speakers: Mr Michael LI, Mr Allen LEUNG, Ir Andrew FUNG Date: 14 May 2021 Time: 18:30 - 20:00 Programme Highlights The Architectural Services Department (ArchSD) has been promoting the innovative construction, such as Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), Modular Integrated Construction (MiC), Multi-trade Integrated Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MiMEP) and Smart Asset Management in Facilities Upkeep, in order to improve the efficiency and quality of the design, production and operation of the construction industry. In the presentation, ArchSD will share their journey on how to exchange innovative ideas, keep up with the latest technological trend and bring inspirations into the department through discussions at internal focus group, collaborations with industry partners and sharing among stakeholders along the way. Two highlighted projects adopting innovative construction in 2020, i.e. Quarantine Camps and Hong Kong Infection Control Centre in Lantau will be presented and these two projects also demonstrate the effort of Hong Kong SAR Government to provide an array of different measures within a short time to relief the pressure faced by the hospital system and to meet the challenges brought by any future changes in the epidemic situation. About the Speakers Mr Michael LI is the Project Director at ArchSD with disciplinary services projects portfolio. He has extensive professional experience and handled a number of projects including the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital, Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point Complex, Kowloon East Regional Police Operation Base, disciplinary staff quarters adopting MiC, Quarantine Camps, Hong Kong Wetland Park, the Improvement to Victoria Park, the Diamond Hill Columbarium and Crematorium and the City Gallery. Some of these projects have received various local and overseas architectural and design awards and recognitions. Mr Allen LEUNG is the Project Director at ArchSD with over twenty years of project management, design and advisory of hospital projects experiences. The medical projects delivered through his hands have witnessed the continual improvement and upgrading of standards and quality of medical facilities in Hong Kong such as the first public hospital project using Design and Build procurement method, the strategic 10 years Hospital Development Plan, upgrading of Hospital Authority’s infection facilities during the outbreak of SARS in 2003, the design of the Princess Margaret Hospital Infectious Disease Centre and the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre. Ir Andrew FUNG is the Chief Project Manager at ArchSD for overall project in-charge overseeing project implementation plan, procurement, funding application, contract administration, etc. He is the team leader of ArchSD’s MiC task group to facilitate MiC adoption in government building projects. He is now managing the project “Construction of Disciplined Services Quarters for the FSD at Pak Shing Kok, Tseung Kwan O” which is one of the pilot projects of high rise housing with the adoption of MiC. He was also one of the contract administers for quarantine camp projects at Penny’s Bay and took part in administration of some mega-size capital work projects, inter alia HK Police Headquarters and Central Government Complex and Legislative Council Complex.
