The new date for the DofE Award Presentation ceremony is on the 8 February, 2018 starting at 7:30pm in the School Chapel. At this ceremony students who have finished their Bronze or Silver Awards this year will be awarded their certificate and badge in recognition of their success competing their DofE level. Each section of the award takes commitment, perseverance and dedication to complete and I very much hope that you are available to join us for this presentation to acknowledge the achievements of these young people and celebrate their success. Sports Reports Netball Summary Under 18 vs Callywith College Won 32-23 An exciting, good-spirited game against Callywith in school's first ever fixture against them, went our way. Although always in control, the girls had to work hard to fend off a late fight back from Callywith. The match was an opportunity to experiment a little with the line-up and some squad players saw good court time. Cerys at WA was a steadying influence and fed the circle beautifully. Under 12 vs Richard Lander Won 12-3 8 girls played in the fixture and a new combination took to the court each quarter. The girls defended 'man to man' very well with several interceptions made. The defensive effort of the team made it hard for Richard Lander to get the ball to their shooters. Play through the centre court was excellent, well timed and quick. A few balls were lost trying to pass a long ball to our shooters. Player of the match was Libby. Under 13 vs Richard Lander Won 15-10 After a strong first quarter the girls were ahead by four goals. However they were pegged back in the second and were now only ahead by two. After some tactical changes in the third quarter the girls moved convincingly ahead yet again and this time they were not going to let their opponents back into the game. Excellent defence from Anya and accurate shooting from Charlotte, but player of the match was Evelyn. U14 vs Richard Lander Lost Under 15 vs Richard Lander Lost 11-22 This was a lovely game against a strong opposition. Truro were without four key players, allowing other pupils to get some additional court time and some well earnt rest for those four players. Truro improved every quarter and must be commended on a good score against Richard Landers strongest. Jess B was voted Truro’s player of the match by Richard Lander. A special mention for Laura and Jess C who had to fill in as goal shooter, neither of their positions. Under 16 vs Richard Lander Lost 17-23 The Under 16s travelled away with a slightly amended team. Jenny and Bimini stepped in and performed superbly. Molly dominated in attack and scored many goals for the team, her leadership and encouragement to her peers cannot be faulted. Despite leading after the first quarter, RL came back fighting and were determined to take the lead. Grace and Zoe worked hard in centre court and Mary and Maddie continued to bond their defensive relationship proven that they deserve to call those positions their own. The final score was 17 – 23, and although disappointed, the girls had a fantastic competitive fixture. Grace was voted player of the match. Under 14 County Netball Tournament The County tournament is what the girls have been training for and to have it on home soil was a bonus. Getting together before the tournament and informing the girls they had 8 matches 112 minutes just to get to the semi- finals and the toughest pool they knew they had to play to the best of their ability. The first match was against St Ives who started strong in the first half but Truro upped their game and won 18-5. Truro High school were next and once again, Truro won 15-5. Richard Lander were the next opponents, the girls lost to them in the previous week so they wanted to turn the tables but Richard Lander were far more clinical and made few mistakes. Truro gave away too many passes and lost 8-11. The other results were all wins. Wadebridge 11-2, Launceston 17-0, Brannel 17-1, Newquay Tretherras 9-5, Penair 8-3. We came runners up in our pool so had to play the winners of the other pool, Penryn. In the past County tournaments we always came runners up but if lost this match we wouldn't qualify for the Regional tournament. At halftime, it was 3-2 to Penryn and the second half was just as tense. Truro turned over a Penryn centre pass which put us level. On the final whistle it was 7-7 but we had been awarded a penalty which our shooter confidently shot!!! We had qualified and it was so deserved. We had to play Richard Lander in the final but I think the excitement and relief of the players they did not play their best and loss 5-13. Well done to you all a great result. S Maund, P Allister, E Straw, N Read, M Yoki, H Bradley (capt), A Rawlinson, A Searle, K Fear, S Hooper Hockey Match Reports Wednesday 8 November – Under 12 vs Newquay Tretherras Truro Under 12 girls faced Tretherras School on Wednesday 8th November away in Newquay. From the start Truro School looked calm and in control, they passed the ball well under pressure and made strong tackles where necessary. With a mixed ability team and a new formation the girls played brilliantly together, attacking in pairs and passing the ball to beat defenders and score a beat goal in the first half.
