Each U.S. person who has a financial interest in, or signature author- ity over bank, securities, or other financial accounts in a foreign country that exceeds $10,000 in aggregate value, must report that fact on his or her federal income tax return. An additional report must be filed by June 30th of each year on an information return (Form TDF 90 22.1) with the U.S. Treasury. Willful noncompliance may result in criminal prosecution. You should consult a quali- fied attorney or accountant to ensure that you know, understand and comply with these and any other reporting requirements. About the Author Robert E. Acknowledgements Many people assisted in the production of this 10th Edi- tion of The Passport Book, a text that was first suggested by the late Bob Kephart, the founder of the Sovereign Society in 1997. My sincere appreciation goes to Daniel Aponte, Jr., who did the tedious job of checking and updating all email and physical addresses and web sites; to Bruce Borich who once again labored with the layout and design; to Erika Nolan and Shannon Sands, who tolerated the author’s delays and idiosyncrasies; and to the many readers who made valuable suggestions that improved the text over past editions. Special appreciation goes to Layana Spencer of Lonely Planet publications head office in Melbourne, Australia, who again made arrangements for our use of interesting and colorful excerpts from the Lonely Planet Travel Guides© web site, http://www.lonelyplanet.com/ that are used with permission.
