Moving into a new community can bring challenges, and it is helpful to be prepared in order to address issues and needs as you prepare to settle into your new community. This booklet, Marching On, provides information and resources that can assist you and your family while settling into life in Saskatchewan and Detachment Dundurn. Our Area of Responsibility The majority of the postings within Central Saskatchewan are for 17 Wing Detachment Dundurn and the Canadian Forces Ammunition Depo; however, there are several units within the city of Saskatoon, as well as, a unit in Prince Albert and another in Yorkton. As a result, the majority of the information included in Marching On is directed towards families who will be residing in Dundurn, Hanley and the city of Saskatoon. Information on other communities within our catchment area can be provided to you as soon as you contact our office and let us know what information you are looking for. To find out more information on Prince Albert, go to www.citypa.ca or call (306) 953-4305. Detachment Dundurn & CFAD Detachment Dundurn is located 35km south of Saskatoon, 5km off highway No.11. The detachment is 5km north of the small town of Dundurn. The population of Dundurn is approximately 550 people with limited services. Services available within the town of Dundurn are an elementary school (grades k-6), gas station with basic grocery needs and an ATM, post office, indoor skating rink, community hall, several churches, a Subway restaurant and an Asian restaurant, two play grounds and a few other basic services. There are 28 PMQs on the Detachment, a church, playground, gym, outdoor swimming pool, CSMFRC and several clubs. The CSMFC has an extensive lending resources and DVD library. Commonly referred to the City of Bridges, Saskatoon is built on both sides of the South Saskatchewan River and is the fastest growing city in Saskatchewan. You will find shopping, activities, cultural and recreational choices, and anything else any other city would offer. Circle Drive is the freeway and will give you access to any major road or point in the city. The first bill will include your first and last month’s service charges. Some utility companies refer to Detachment Dundurn as “Camp Dundurn” (to differentiate from Town of Dundurn). Utility companies may require both a physical address and a mailing address (if physical address and mailing address are different) in order to register for utilities. To help simplify your move process, Express Address offers residential customers a convenient way to notify multiple Saskatchewan organizations of your move. You can register for telephone, electricity, gas, water/sewer, vehicle registration, drivers and pet licensing all at once. www.expressaddress.com Vehicle Insurance and Driver’s License Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) is the principal vehicle insurer in Saskatchewan. Included with Marching On is an SGI pamphlet that outlines Saskatchewan’s vehicle registration and insurance program. It is recommended that you obtain a driver’s abstract and a claims-free letter from your current insurance company prior to your arrival in Saskatchewan in order to access available discount programs. Most insurance agencies in Saskatchewan can help you complete the transfer of your insurance and driver’s license to the SGI program. To find a motor license issuer near you, go to www.sgi.sk.ca.
