BRITANNIA VILLAGE COMMUNITY ASSOCATION MEETING November4, 2014 MINUTES Time: 7:00 pm Location: Carole’s house – Bradford Street Attendees: Moe Charlebois John Riordan Carole Lumsdon Jim Rudkoski Brewster Kneen Jonathan Morris Bob Sunday Christine Bailey Matilde Hahn Janice Rail Discussion 1) Salina Street Block Party Thank you and congratulations to Sue Merrill for another great party. Also, received a thank you note from Pathways (regarding money received as a result of fundraising from the High Water Social). 2) Flood Proofing (Waterfront Infrastructure Project) Carole wrote email to RVCA and Mark Taylor’s office as follow-up; however, no response yet. RVCA website indicated that, if the tenders are over budget, it will be reconsidering the project. Matilda and Moe will visit City Hall to talk to project manager. October 31st was deadline for easement wording for waterfront properties – could call for update. Project has gone to tender, just need easements finalized. There is a possibility that construction could be started this year. Provincial funding is still available even if there is a delay in the construction. Britannia Village residents are encouraged to visit the RVCA website http://www.rvca.ca/britannia/index.html for information on the project. 3) After Infrastructure Project - Development in Britannia Village Contact Mark Taylor to apply for special zoning in order to keep character of the village when establishing designs for new builds (for example fronts of houses, placement of garages, etc.) 4) Federation of Citizens Associations Meeting to be held on November 5th at Rockcliffe Park. Matilda and John may attend if available. Residents wishing to learn more about the FCA may do so at http://www.fca-fac.ca/ 5) Sign Jonathan has tracked down the appropriate contact at the City of Ottawa regarding the sign. Jonathan will discuss with the City any design, bond, or other issue that pertains to getting the City of Ottawa’s approval. Need specifications for engineering. Matilda to contact sponsor to see if still interested. 6) BVCA Website The BVCA website address is: http://bvcaottawa.wordpress.com/ 7) Traffic Issues Reduction of posted speed limit to 40km/hr – Moe is following-up on this item with the City. Petition regarding limiting parking on Bradford Street to only the east side between Cassels and Rowatt Streets. Matilda and Moe have been visiting neighbours to sign petition. Matilda has number from the City for the petition. 8) Mud Lake Garbage Brewster noted that there is still a problem with dumping of debris on Cassels Street. 9) Round Table i) Drowned tree on Kehoe Street – water front. Check/confirm if it has been removed. ii) Commodore of the Britannia Yacht Club has moved into the neighbourhood. iii) Chain at boat launch on Rowat Street. Should it be there? Noted that it can be opened if necessary. iv) It is noted that Carole will be stepping down as President of the BVCA at the end of her term in January 2015. In discussion it is agreed that the BVCA should outreach to village residents and encourage them to run for one of the four BVCA executive positions, become directors, or volunteer to help out on a community initiative. Village residents are encouraged to consider becoming involved in the BVCA. Carole also looking at project for 2017 of re-publishing Eva Taylor’s book about Britannia with additional input to update and from local children in the neighbourhood. Next meeting: Next meeting Tuesday December 2, 2014 at 6:30 pm – Pot Luck at Jim Rudkoski’ (corner of Britannia and Jamieson) Reminder – January is the AGM.
