Brian Baird Ph.D. Member of Congress (retired) President 4Pir2 Communication ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Brief Biography The Honorable Brian Baird, Ph.D. served six terms, 12 years, in the United States House of Representatives, representing Washington State’s 3rd Congressional District from 1998-2010. In Congress, Dr. Baird was known for promoting congressional integrity, taking principled stands on difficult issues, and for his leadership on ocean acidification, science, fiscal responsibility and congressional continuity. Holding a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, with a specialization in neuropsychology, before serving in Congress Dr. Baird spent more than two decades in clinical practice and chaired the Department of Psychology at Pacific Lutheran University. Following his service in Congress, Baird chaired the Washington State Student Achievement Council, a nine-member council appointed by the Governor to provide policy direction for higher education institutions throughout Washington State. Baird also served as president of Antioch University in Seattle. Baird is now president of 4Pir2 Communication, a consulting firm focusing on public policy and science communication. Baird also chairs 3AmericanQuestions, a non-partisan political organization dedicated to achieving solutions to climate change, the federal debt, and political reform. The author of three books, Congressman Baird serves on several regional and national advisory boards on issues including science, the environment, and health care. He is fluent in Spanish and has traveled extensively around the world. Dr. Baird is married to Dr. Rachel Nugent, an economist specializing in global health and non-communicable diseases. They live near Seattle in Edmonds Washington and have twin eleven-year old sons. Their family enjoys hiking, travel, skiing, sea kayaking and other outdoor activities. .
