In detail, Sea Robbery (2), Sea Theft (1), Attempted Action (4). The 14 number of incidents were lower than in Aug 2019 (10) and Aug 12 12 11 11 2018 (11). 10 • Two incidents occurred while the vessels were underway and five 8 8 7 7 7 incidents while the vessel were either anchored or berthed. All of the incidents occurred during Period of Darkness (PoD). 6 4 • Two Sea Robbery incidents occurred in Batangas Bay, Philippines involving a berthed tanker and an anchored bulk carrier. The total 2 of three incidents recorded in the area this year. Confrontations 0 occurred between perpetrators and crew in both incidents. It was the first incident occurred in 13 11 11 the area this year. The paint stores padlocks were broken and 11 12 10 drums of paint were discovered stolen from the paint store. The last 11 Bulk Carrier 10 9 9 4 recorded incident in this area was on 27 Aug 19. 9 8 8 7 7 7 7 • Two Attempted Action incidents recorded in the Eastbound lane of 6 TSS in Singapore Strait. Both incidents occurred onboard 5 underway bulk carriers during PoD within an hour period. No item 4 were stolen, no injury to the crew reported in both incidents. Causes for most of the 20 incidents are still unknown while the others three were due to human error, engine failure and bad weather. Foreign Vessels (Countries shown here represent the location of the vessels involved) • 86.6% (13) of the reported local IUU Fishing incidents occurred in the waters of Malaysia and Philippines. Poaching 6.5% 6.5% (1) • The number of IUU fishing incidents involving poaching (1) MALAYSIA recorded in Aug 2020 (19) has decreased compared to the PHILIPPINES figures recorded in Jul 2020 (23), but it has increased SRI LANKA compared to the number recorded in Aug 2019 (9) and Aug 2018 (8) respectively. 27% 60% INDIA (4) (9) • 84.2% (16) of the reported poaching incidents were by Vietnamese fishing vessels. • 52.6% (10) of the reported poaching incidents occurred in Malaysian waters. RELEASEABLE TO OPCEN Contraband Smuggling (CS) Observations Number of Incidents (2018 - 2020) The number of incidents reported this month is higher than 60 Aug 2019(24) and Aug 2018(30). It is also the highest 50 incident recorded this year till date. 39 40 36 Drugs : 11 incidents 33 29 • Six incidents were reported in Malaysia with total amount 30 of Ketum leaves 1,151kg, Meth 9.3kg and Cannabis 22 21 18 537kg. 20 14 • Myanmar reported one major incident with total amount 10 1,380kg of Meth. • India and Bangladesh reported Heroin 181kg and Meth 0 1.3 million pills respectively. Domestic Products : 12 incidents • Five incident was reported in Sri Lanka. Malaysia reported two incidents, three incidents were reported in 7%(3) DOMESTIC PRODUCTS Philippines, and two incidents were reported in Hong 9%(1) 9%(4) 28%(12) Kong. DRUGS 9%(1) 9%(4) Natural Resources : 3 incidents 37%(4) KETUM LEAVES TOBACCO • One Incident each was reported in Malaysia, Hong Kong 18%(2) METH and Sri Lanka. 21%(9) WILDLIFE CANNABIS Fuel: 4 incidents 26%(11) • Vietnamese authorities foiled one attempts of Diesel FUEL HEROIN 27%(3) smguggling 100, 000Litres onboard local fishing vessel. ECSTASY NATURAL RESOURCES • Indonesia recorded two cases of diesel smuggling with the total of 22,000 litres.
