(PR) Department of Communication requirement: Research must reflect a programmatic focus consistent with the author's teaching and research interests. Research must reflect a sustained and ongoing- effort over time. My scholarly activity falls into two areas(!) scholarship of teaching and learning and (2) communication, culture, and civility. The impact on the Communication field is evidenced by the peer-reviewed publications I have in these areas, the peer-reviewed regional, national and international conference presentations, invited presentations and lectures, and programs I have organized, chaired, or responded at professional academic conferences. In 2009, I was chosen as one of only nine Communication faculty members in the U.S.to help lead an "Communication as Engaged Scholarship" seminar for 36 doctoral students at PhD granting universities across the nation by the National Communication Association. I was selected because of my publications, presentations, and applied work in communication, culture, and civility. The Communication Activism text in which I had a co-authored chapter publication was recognized as a finalist for the National Communication Association Applied Communication Division Award in 2008. This text in which my co-authored chapter appeared in has to date been reviewed seven different times by top communication journals. My scholarship of teaching and learning work has been published in the Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning which has an article acceptance rate of between 21-30%, according to a compilation of journal acceptance rates by the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning at the Dillon 2 University of Central Florida. Other articles on the scholarship of teaching and learning have been published in the STAM Journal which has been recognized with awards as the Outstanding State Journal by the Central States Communication Association for two years (2005, 20 12). The book .. Linking Students and Teaching with the DIVERSITY of Everyday Life in which I contributed a chapter was a finalist for the Outstanding Book Award International/Intercultural Division of the National Communication Association in 2009. I have presented a top paper program in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and have been recognized with Missouri Showcase paper winners primarily with my scholarship and work with my department's internship program. l have been asked to read and review papers in the scholarship of teaching and learning and international and intercultural communication by both Central States Communication Association and the National Communication Association . My scholarship foci has provided me the opportunity to review articles for Communication Teacher, a publication from the National Communication Association, and the Journal ofIntercultural Communication Research.
