Hiking programme 2015 The Welfare Club Hiking Group 1 The Welfare Club Hiking Group All Wärtsilä employees can participate. If family members or friends would like to join, that is fine. We try to make a programme with varied hikes so that there is something for everyone. The hikes are therefore labelled indicating how difficult they are, ranging from one star, which is the easiest, to five stars, which is the hardest. * Easy, relaxing and social. ** Relatively easy, and provides a light workout. *** This is a nice workout for most people. Hiking boots and good clothes are useful. **** Demanding hike that requires a good shape. Good equipment necessary. ***** Extremely hard for most. Correct equipment required. All who participate in two or more hikes during the year will get a nice backpack. We’ll take a route from Våge, up to Vardane, to Hovda and down. Great view of the sea from Vardane. The ground may be a bit wet. Vardane is one of the peaks in the Bømlo peak programme (Topptrimmen). Duration: approximately 1.5 hours. Guide: Tove Stokka Skiing in Rosendalsfjella, Kvinnherad***** Saturday 25 April We’ll meet at Skjersholmane at 0745. We will fill up the cars and split the cost of the ferry, toll and fuel. Skiing in high and steep mountains. Peaks more than 1400 metres above sea level. Best suited for those who have wide skis and ski skins. Also appropriate for snowboarders. We’ll need to carry our skis for a while before we reach the snow, so you’ll need a backpack to attach that can have the skis attached to it. We’ll be in the mountains for 7-8 hours. Goddo, Bømlo ** Tuesday 12 May A lovely hike in beautiful and varied terrain at Goddo. The hike starts to the north and we’ll go via Barmane to Helgaplass. Duration: approximately 2 hours. We’ll meet at the parking lot by Goddebrua at 1800. Guide: Annbjørg K. Økland 4 Bike ride to the windmills, Fitjarfjellet *** Wednesday 20 May We’ll meet at 1700 at the parking lot by the entrance to the windmills (to the right, approximately one kilometre before the centre of Fitjar when coming via Sagvåg). We will ride on a good and wide gravel road all the way up to Svartavatnet and go around the windmills. We’ll have a break and eat at the top. An offroad bike would be best, but regular tires should also work. Duration: Approximately 3 hours Bring food and something to drink Guides: Øystein Forland and Roald Myhre Family hike to Ryvarden fyr* Sunday 31 May The hike takes about 30 minutes each way. Suitable for pushchairs and children. Beautiful scenery surrounds the lighthouse with a magnificent view. There is a cafeteria where you can buy waffles and cakes. We can preorder fish soup – if you are interested, please notify Irene Kvalvik no later than Thursday 28 May. There is an exhibition by artist Olga Grimsmo Nilsen in the gallery. Grimsmo is a popular artist producing both woodcuts and drawings. She is inspired by children and children’s drawings. We’ll meet at 1100 at the parkinglot befor the ‘miljøtunnelen’ and drive together to Ryvarden. Alternatively we’ll meet at the Ryvarden parking lot at 1130. http://www.ryvarden.no/ Guide: Irene Kvalvik Mælandssåta and Grimsfjellet, Bømlo ** Thursday 4 June A great hike in lovely forests in Svortlandsmarka. The hike goes to two of the peaks; Mælandssåta and Grimsfjellet. Duration: approximately 2 hours. We’ll meet at the parking lot by Svortland skule at 1800. Guide: Hein R. Schaug 5 Kayaking, Fitjar** Thursday 4 June We’ll meet by the breakwater at the very tip of Vestbøstad (the end of Nordresjøvegen) at Fitjar at 1700. Bring your own kayak since we don’t have any to lend out. Roald and Kjetil will take us for a ride and show us parts of the wonderful Fitjar archipelago. Remember to dress according to the temperature in the water – wet suit/dry suit/safety equipment. Duration: approximately 3 hours. Bring food and something to drink. The trip depends on the weather. If we have to cancel due to bad weather, we’ll try again the following Thursday, 11 June. If you have any questions, please contact one of the guides. Guides: Roald Myhre and Kjetil Hjelle Skiing trip to Bukkanuten, Kvinnherad**** Saturday 6 June We’ll meet at Skjersholmane at 0745. We’ll group as many as possible in each car and split the cost of the ferry, toll and fuel. We’ll be skiing in high and steep mountains. Most suitable for those with wide skis and sk skins. Also suitable for snowboarders. Sign up by e-mail to: [email protected] by 4 June. The trip may be cancelled if the weather is bad. Guides: Ove Steinsland and Åsmund Hellesøy. 6 Sailing trip and hike to Borgundnuten, Stord/Kvinnherad*** Wednesday 17 June We’ll sail to Borgundøy and climb Borgundnuten (460 metres above sea level). We’ll meet by the sailing club’s facilities in Eldøyo at 1630. We’ll be back approximately.2300. Sign up by e-mail by 16 June to: [email protected] – limited spaces available. Guides: Øystein Forland, John Bjordal, Davide Lamparelli Skiing trip to Maurangerfjella and Folgefonna, Kvinnherad**** Saturday 20 June We’ll meet at Skjersholmane at 0745. We’ll fill up the cars and split the cost of the ferry, toll and fuel. The trip goes from Markjelke towards Hundsøyra (1464 metres above sea level), by the edge of Folgefonna. This trip is not that steep and regular mountain skis with steel edges will do fine. It may be a good idea to apply ‘Klister’ ski wax or use skins. Sign up by e-mail to: [email protected] by 18 June. The trip may be cancelled if the weather is bad. Guides: Ove Steinsland and Åsmund Hellesøy 7 Heimstadfjellet, Bømlo ** Thursday 27 August We’ll meet at the parking lot by Meling skule at 1800. This is an easy hike with moderate ascent up to Heimstadfjellet. A part of the hike goes along Straumfjorden. This is also one of the peak hikes in the Bømlo Turlag peak programme. Duration: approximately 1.5 hours. Guide: Annbjørg K. Økland Hike to Melderskin, Kvinnherad***** Saturday 15 August We’ll meet at Skjersholmane at 0745. We’ll group as many as possible in each car and split the cost of the ferry, toll and fuel. The hike goes from Kletta in Rosendal and steeply up to Melderskin (1426 metres above sea level). We’ll be in the mountans 6-7 hours. Sign up by e-mail to: [email protected] by 13 August. The trip may be cancelled if the weather is bad. Guides: Ove Steinsland and Åsmund Hellesøy. Bike ride to Austevoll *** Sunday 30 August We’ll take the ferry from Sandvikvåg to Husavik at 0930. From Husavik we’ll ride over Huftarøy, over the bridge to Hundvågøy and Austevollshella, and then to Torangsvåg and across the bridge to Stora Kalsøy (Bakkasund). Here we’ll have a break and enjoy the weather. We’ll ride the same way back but make a turn over the bridge to Bekkjarvik. Here it is possible to buy dinner. If we would like more, it is possible to take an extra trip to Stolmen before we return to Husavik and the ferry back to Sandvikvåg. Everyone will have to arrange their own bike transportation to and from Sandvikvåg. The ferry going back leaves every hour. Bring food and something to drink. Guides: Øystein Forland and Tove Stokka 8 Over Siggjo from the west to the east, Bømlo*** Wednesday 9 September The hike goes over Siggjo from Åreiddalen in the west to Grøvle (Siggjarvåg) in the east. We’ll meet at the parking lot by Grøvle (Siggjarvåg) at 1800. We’ll fill up the cars and leave some so that we’ll be able to collect them later. We’ll drive to Åreiddalen and start the hike by ”stemneplassen”. This is a lovelt hike with breathtaking views of all of Sunnhordland. 473 metres above sea level.
