Senior Rep debuts for Jason Martin (Weymouth), Stu Wood (Papakura), Jonny Wilkinson (Pukekohe Metro) and fifteen year old Mat Singh (Pukekohe Metro). Alan Whimp (Right) wins the prestigious Sutcliffe Medal at the New Zealand Cricket Awards Evening at the Sky City Convention Centre. The medal recognises outstanding service to the game and in 2008 was won by Sir Richard Hadlee. Peter McGlashan hit 106 for his new Club Waiuku in the opening round of one day cricket against Pukekohe Metro. Mark Dass (Right) takes 5/30 for Karaka against Weymouth and is the early season pace setter in the Club Cricketer of the Year Competition. CRICKET AT ITS BEST NOVEMBER HIGHLIGHTS CMCA win one (Poverty Bay) and lose two (Bay of Plenty and Hamilton) at the Fergus Hickey Tournament in Taupo. At the Cambridge Oval CMCA beat Waikato Valley by 42 runs with Tamati Clarke (Weymouth, Right) scoring 52 and Jonny Wilkinson (Pukekohe Metro) taking 3/17. Matt Hawkins (Right) takes 5/45 for Weymouth against Waiuku. CRICKET AT ITS BEST DECEMBER HIGHLIGHTS Pukekohe Metro win the Counties Manukau Sports team of the Year award at the annual awards evening at the Telstra Pacific Events Centre in Manukau. At the same awards night, CMCA Umpire Tony Hill (Right) wins the Referee/ Umpire of the Year award after making it onto the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires the previous Season. Peter McGlashan (Sportsman), Joe Stoupe (Administrator), Shane Gadsdon (Junior Sportsman) & Garry Wood (Coach) were all shortlisted for awards. CMCA win their 2 day game with BOP at Mountfort Park by 35 runs on 1st innings. Ashwyn Herwels hit an unbeaten 57 and Skipper Scott Guthire (Right) took 4/50. CRICKET AT ITS BEST JANUARY HIGHLIGHTS CMCA U15s won the ND Tournament in Taupo, with Luke Williamson (Weymouth) hitting 142* in the final. Cameron Gibbons, Luke Williamson (Both Weymouth) and Daniel Masuitama (Manukau City) were all selected in the Northern Districts Under 15s. Leonard Powell (Drury) was selected in the Northern Districts Under 15 Development Squad. CMCA U16 Development squad won their tournament in Hamilton. Mitchell Sweetman (Pukekohe Metro) takes 6/32 against Weymouth. Tim Hartland (Pukekohe Metro) hit 110 in the same game. This wasn't enough to stop Weymouth recording their first ever outright victory over Pukekohe Metro. Todd McDonald cemented his place at the top of the Club Player of the Year Competition, scoring 123* and taking 5 wickets in each innings as Karaka beat Manukau City outright in the final over. Brendon Read (Manukau City, Top Right) took 5/23 in the same game. Tamati Clarke hit 80 not out as Weymouth beat Maugakaramea to move into the Semi Finals of the ND Club Competition. Shane Gadsdon (Papakura) scored 90 as CMCA ‘B’ beat BOP by 30 runs. Mat Singh took 4 wickets in the match. CMCA lost to Northland by 5 wickets in a game played on the Karaka Artificial. Simon Beare (Karaka, Bottom Right) scored 123 against Papakura and Ant Niterl (Centre) took 7/90 in the same innings. CRICKET AT ITS BEST FEBRUARY HIGHLIGHTS Alex Borrie (5/38), Todd McDonald (5/13) and Simon Beare (141 Right) help Karaka to secure the two day title with an outright victory over Waiuku. Sarket Singh takes 5/33 as Weymouth beat Papakura at Mountfort Park. Richie Faust, who had been living in Australia, returned to the Manukau City side and hit 105* against Papakura. Dean Bruce’s 90* helped maintain Weymouth’s position at the top of the one day ladder after victory against Manurewa rivals Manukau City. CRICKET AT ITS BEST MARCH HIGHLIGHTS Kyle Blanchard records a personal Premier Cricket best of 96 as Weymouth beat Papakura to stay on course for another one day final. Simon Beare falls one shot of making his 3rd century of the season with a quick fire 99 against Waiuku. Ashwyn Herwels scores 125* as CMCA beat Poverty Bay on 1st innings in Gisborne. Todd McDonald scores his 2nd century of the season with 106 runs against Manukau City. Jono Hickey scores 159 and team mate Luke Glen 116 as Manukau City post 454 against Waiuku in their 50 overs. Waiuku made a good fist of the chase, with a season high 212, with Jesse Smyth- Kirk scoring 87. Former Black Cap Dion Nash (Right) helps inspire the Samsung CPA Masters to a 4 wicket win over the Alan Whimp CMCA XI at Mountfort Park. Casey Cox (Right) regains his title as CMCA’s Biggest Hitter, striking the ball 97 metres in the competition final. Weymouth and Pukekohe Metro faced each other in the one day final for the 2nd year in a row, with Weymouth eventual winners by 5 wickets. CRICKET AT ITS BEST APRIL HIGHLIGHTS CMCA/ Weymouth CC were the victims of a serious arson attack just after Easter Weekend. A fire was started which caused serious damage to the deck and roof and it is expected it will take many months to be restored. Shane Gadsdon, Stu Wood, Ant Niterl and Vaughan Blanchard all made it to England where they begin back to back seasons in English Club Cricket. (Weekly progress can be found on the CMCA website).
