Mo i Rana – Helgeland Region - Northern Norway E-12 runs from Mo i Rana to Helsinki • E12 is included in the TEN-T (Comprehensive Network). • TEN-T status also at the ports of Vaasa, Umea and Mo i Rana • E12 is the shortest way from our region to the con&nent. Linking both "Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor" that goes to Stockholm, and "North Sea- Bal&c Corridor" that go to Tallin. E12 and Mo i Rana - is the link to the Atlan&c. Mo i Rana – Helgeland Region - Northern Norway The City • The biggest industrial city in northern Norway • Regional center and transport hub The port • Mo i Rana harbor is one of the largest in northern Norway Mo i Rana – Helgeland Region - Northern Norway Energy - A region with large surplus of hydroelectric power - some of the major oil and gas fields off the coast. - the leading industrial development zone in Northern Norway. Mo i Rana – Helgeland Region - Northern Norway Why this is important to us! • As one of the heaviest industrial regions in Norway, and has also had significantly ac&vity offshore in the past decade. • Aquaculture is an important industry for Helgeland and tourism is an industry in growth. The increasing level of acvity in various industries requires good transportaon systems. Mo i Rana – Helgeland Region - Northern Norway To compete in a larger market, a good logis&cs system be crucial to the economy in Finland, Sweden and in Norway as well. The Midway Alignment project will result in a secure, environmentally and economically sustainable transport system, and expand the connec&ons between strong, fast growing, internaonally important regions But what about the EU in general? - Let's change our perspec&ve again! Mo i Rana – Helgeland Region - Northern Norway Why our project may be important for EU. • Europe is one of the major world trading partners and most of its trade exchanges are carried by mari&me transportaon. • Northern Sea Route (NSR) known as the shortest sea route between Northern Europe and East Asia • In 2012, the NSR transit voyages reached 46 vessels and 1.26 million tons of cargoes were shipped.
