Noblemen carried the battle mace as weapon and as a staff of command. Today the academic mace indicates that the president of a university or college is the embodiment of the power, authority, autonomy, and sovereignty of the institution. The McKendree mace was fashioned from a white oak tree planted near Wildy Hall at a time near the founding of the college in 1828. The tree was felled in 2004 by a summer storm, and the McKendree Board of 701 College Road Trustees, in recognition of the tenth anniversary Lebanon, IL 62254 of the presidency of Dr. James M. Dennis, 618-537-4481 commissioned the creation of the McKendree mace. 1-800-BEARCAT The images represented on the mace are 1828, www.mckendree.edu the year of McKendree’s founding, a likeness of Bishop William McKendree, the Lamp of Knowledge, Bothwell Chapel, the symbol of the United Methodist Church, and the seal of the University. ii McKendree University 2016/2017 Undergraduate Catalog McKendree University is an A ccreditations Memberships affirmative action/equal opportunity Higher Learning Commission A merican Association employer and admits students of 230 South LaSalle St. of Colleges for Teacher any sex, race, color, national and Suite 7-500 Education (AACTE) ethnic origin and age with all rights, Chicago, IL 60604-1413 American Association privileges, programs, and activities 800-621-7440 generally accorded its students. of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) In conformance with state and Commission on Accreditation federal regulations, McKendree of Athletic Training Education American Council University does not discriminate on (CAATE) on Education (ACE) the basis of sex, race, color, religion, 2201 Double Creek Drive Associated Colleges disability, national and ethnic origin, Suite 5006 of Illinois (ACI) or age in the administration of its Round Rock, TX 78664 educational policies, admission 512-733-9700 Association for Black Culture policies, scholarship and loan Centers (ABCC) programs, athletic, and other school Commission on Collegiate Association for the administered programs.
