RESEARCH INTERESTS • Democratization and Armed Conflicts in Post-Cold War Africa: The major objective of this research project is to analyze the conditions under which the transitions to democracy have been peaceful or conflict-ridden in the post-Cold War Africa. • Uncovering the Causal Mechanisms of Civil War in Post-Cold War Africa: The major objective of this research project is to analyze the national and international conditions that may have been favorable for the occurrence of civil wars, as well as the actions taken by national and international actors that may have contributed to their outbreak in the post-Cold War Africa. • The Challenges to Democratic Consolidation in Madagascar: An Actor-Focused Approach The major objective of this research project is to identify the main challenges or obstacles to democratic consolidation in a poor and divided society like Madagascar, which is in many ways a representative of many African countries.
