Youlden Cricketer's Almanac 2011-12

YOULDEN CRICKETER’S ALMANAC 2011-12 A STATISTICAL REVIEW OF YOULDEN PARKVILLE C.C. FOR THE SEASON 2011-12 FOREWORD The 2011-12 season saw one of our elevens win a premiership for the first time since 2002-03 when Ian Robertson’s 3rd X1 won a tight low scoring affair in Fawkner Park against local rivals Parkville District. It capped a remarkable few weeks for the threes where they scraped into the four by a single point, beat the top side in the Semi, and then beat essentially the same team that defeated the 4th X1 in the GF last season after being effectively 6-12 in their second innings at the start of day two! The Fourth X1 started season with a couple of wins before really struggling to finish sixth. The Ones were in the Four at various stages during the course of the season before unfortunately missing the finals by the equivalent of 35 runs or two wickets. The Seconds again struggled with a lack of “quality” cricketers willing to commit to playing two day cricket. The 3rd X1 were not the only team in the club that won a premiership with the Under 12’s winning the Club’s first junior flag with a dominant display in both the SF and GF. Other than the Under 12’s the YPCC Powerful Owls also fielded an Under 14 team, ran a Super 8’s program for 8 to 10 year olds and continued to run the In2Cricket program for 5 to 8 year olds. Overall there were about 70 juniors involved in the Powerful Owls program, which bodes well for the future of the Club when these kids eventually start to move into the Senior Elevens. There were 91 senior players who strutted their stuff for YPs (up from 85 from last season) and all of them are featured in this almanac. However as was the case last season, many were only transient contributions (27 players played two matches or less.) We had 28 players who made their YPCC debuts this season. Some moved on immediately, however like last year 15 of those played 4 games or more. Hopefully they can all come back and build on this next year. I look forward to further development in the careers of Max and George Diciero, Kale Claffey, Adam Tucker, Glen Ross, Owen Jones, Michael Teychenne, James Lenehan, Tony Singh, Peter Pattchis, Jack Hughes and Subramanyam Nandury. Five of these new players (Adam Tucker, Owen Jones, James Lenehan, Peter Pattchis and Subramanyam Nandury) played in the 3rd X1 premiership team. Special individual highlights were two “Stevie Nicks” from Russ (6/46 and 6/83) and one from Michael Teychenne (6/42). Two individual hundreds were scored this season, one by Ian Robertson (102*) and the other by Andy Paulett (101*). Adam Tucker was named Man of the Match in the 3rd X1 GF for his match figures of 7/36 and second innings 46, which was the highest score of not only that game but all GF’s played in Fawkner Park this season. Derek Dewey played his 100th game for the Club. At the VTCA presentation night Russell Marks and Waddingtion Mwayenga were both named in the VTCA North Team of the Year. At the MCA presentation night Ian Robertson was named in the MCA Team of the Year and also won the C grade Player of the Year. President Paul Sinclair again led the committee with aplomb. He was well supported by the committee as we continue to push to sure-up our future both on and off the field. There are so many more stories to come out of 2012-12, so read on to refresh your memory. – Barney YOULDEN RISING STAR – Max and George Diciero The Justin J. O’Connor Memorial Trophy This is a trophy to uphold youthful exuberance and talent, and at the same time pay our respects to an old friend who was taken from us so young. For the first time in the awards history the Committee was unable to differentiate between two worthy recipients. Max and George joined the Club from the Reds on the promise of better opportunities. They were at every social function, almost every training session, and consistently helped out around the Club. They continue the fine calibre of young player to win this award. BEST CLUBPERSON – Matthew Perkins The Tom Harrington Memorial Trophy In his third season at the club Matt (he of the YPCC Blazer) joined the committee as the Junior Development Co-ordinator to coordinate the rapidly expanding junior program. Matt fulfilled this new roll with aplomb, with the juniors running smoothly, and the best social interaction between the junior parents and senior players achieved to date. All his efforts are recognised here. Well done Matt, thanks for all your efforts. Well deserved. As an aside Matt and his son Jack both became premiership players for the Club on the same weekend. Jack was a member of the Under 12 winning team on the Saturday morning and Matt was part of Robbo’s Third X1 that won on the Sunday. I am pretty sure that Matt carried on like a bigger lunatic than Jack after their respective wins! CLUB CHAMPION - 752 POINTS The George Moloney Jnr. Trophy Russell Marks Back to back for Russ. Russ has got better with each season he has been at the Club. This season Russ took 34 wickets and made 346 runs to rack up just under twice as many Club Champion points as he won with last season and the most in the history of the award. His efforts were also acknowledged by his fellow captains in the VTCA North Division with Russ being included in the VTCA North Division Team of the Year. Congratulations Russ. To be voted the best player of the season by your fellow team-mates is a great honour. Each season he has been at the Club his results have improved steadily, culminating in him taking out both the batting and bowling awards for the 1st X1 this season. His opposition captains have also acknowledged his season by including Waddy in the VTCA North Division Team of the Year. Congratulations Waddy!!!
