That credo has been drilled in since, appropriately, day one. Robbie Ustruck, Matt Weber, Garth Coats, Mark Gawronski, Grant Murray. One group. Even the most die-hard Warhawk fans, parents excluded, would be hard pressed to name UW- Whitewater‟s starters on the offensive line. But without the “pound the rock” mantra of this group other names would appear in fewer headlines. The Warhawks rank fourth in scoring offense and fourth in offensive yardage in NCAA III statistics. UW-Whitewater is also third in passing efficiency, not in small part as a result of giving the fourth fewest sacks in Division III. UW-W is about to break school records for points, touchdowns, first downs, yards rushing and total offense, among others. But it would be unfair to say the group has a Rodney Dangerfield complex. They have earned respect. Weber, Coats and Ustruck were First Team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and tight end John Novak, an integral part of the unit, was an honorable mention selection. Weber and Ustruck were also named D3football.com First Team All-West Region. Talented players have thrived in partnership with the guys up front. Aaron Rusch, just a junior, owns the UW-W record for career receptions, is less than a football field away from the school‟s career yardage mark, and is likely to break the WIAC mark for catches before the season ends. Levell Coppage is making a bid to become just the second player in school history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season (the other being former Gagliardi Trophy winner Justin Beaver who accomplished the feat twice). As he completes his sophomore season, Coppage is already seventh on UW-W‟s career rushing list. Jeff Donovan, the WIAC Offensive Player of the Year, is tied for third in career touchdown passes and season TD‟s thrown, both ironically with the man that recruited him, former Warhawk quarterback and former head coach Bob Berezowitz. One successful part of the team. While one unit, the offense, has been re-writing the record book, another has been content to turn the ball back to their offensive brethren. The Warhawk defense is second in scoring defense and fifth in total defense in Division III. All-American Anthony White has climbed into fifth place in career sacks in the school record book and defensive back Troney Shumpert has lived up to his preseason All-American recognition. Both were joined by linebacker Kyle Supianoski on the WIAC First Team Defense. Five teammates joined them as second team or honorable mention picks. One more. The Warhawks were also fortunate to have a Davenport, Iowa native walk on to campus four years ago. Placekicker Jeff Schebler, already a three-time All-American, is the most prolific scoring kicker in NCAA – any division, history. The Warhawk coaching staff has always said there is one more. One more session in the weight room, one more play that can be executed better, one more piece of video to watch. Now, as the 2009 season draws to a close, there is just one. 6 STAFF Head Coach: Lance Leipold Alma Mater: UW-Whitewater, 1986 Record at UW- 27-3 (3rd year) Whitewater: Contact Information: Phone: 262-472-5691 Fax: 262-472-5691 Email: [email protected] Postal: Lance Leipold Head Football Coach Student Athletic Complex UW-Whitewater Whitewater, WI 53190 Coaching Staff: Brian Borland Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Jim Zebrowski Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Steve Dinkel Offensive Line and Run Game Coordinator Nelson Edmonds Special Teams Coordinator and Running Backs Kevin Bullis Assistant Coach Dan Brunner Assistant Coach Jace Rindahl Assistant Coach Tom Karthausser Assistant Coach Andy Harris Director of Football Operations Tim Baldry Student Assistant CJ Hill Student Assistant Danny Jones Student Assistant Alex Polster Student Assistant Support Staff: Lee Munger Strength and Conditioning Chad Kelsey Athletic Trainer Courtney Stefanski Athletic Trainer John Betts Facility Maintenance Courtney Williams Football Secretary Administrative Staff: Dr. Paul Plinske Athletic Director 262-472-1543 Bob Lanza Assistant Athletic Director 262-472-3190 and Business Manager Amy Edmonds Assistant Athletic Director 262-472-1138 and Compliance and Student Services Tom Fick Sports Information Director 262-472-1147 Ruth Hake Athletic Department 262-472-4661 Administrative Assistant Joy Garlock Laundry Coordinator 7 SCHOOL INFORMATION Founded: 1868 Type: Four-year, co-educational, residential Chancellor: Richard Telfer Enrollment: 10,700 Undergraduates: 9,436 Living Alumni: 72,037 Employees: 1,090 Number of Major Buildings: 41 General Access Computers on Campus: 1,608 Number of Computer Labs on Campus: 45 Library Holdings: 1,946,052 FOOTBALL INFORMATION Colors: Purple and White Nickname: Warhawks (logo is the head of a bird) Conference: Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference National Affiliation: National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Stadium (capacity): Perkins Stadium (11,000) 2008 record: 13-2 overall, 9-1 regular season 6-1 WIAC (Tied for 1st) National Division III runners-up WIAC Championships: 1913, 1914, 1922, 1932, 1937, 1940, 1941, 1950, 1959, 1960, 1962, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1980, 1984, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1994, 1997, 1998, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 Post-Season Appearances: 1966 (Advanced to NAIA championship game) 1988 NCAA III 1990 NCAA III 1997 NCAA III 2005 (advanced to NCAA III championship game) 2006 (advanced to NCAA III championship game) 2007 (Won NCAA III national championship) 2008 (advanced to NCAA III championship game) 2009 Basic Offense: Pro Set Basic Defense: 4-3 8 2009 FOOTBALL ROSTER No. Name Pos.
