It was agreed at the meeting that, in Private & Confidential Scottish Swimming – Diving Committee Minutes Page 1 of 3 advance of Board meetings, papers would be shared with the Convenors for feedback and comments. 7.2 Key Achievements Report A Key Achievements report for the year to date was submitted to SS. JO requested any All comments or omissions should be fed back to her. 8. Reports from the Committee: 8.1 West The West District ran 3 successful Summer Diving Camps during the summer holidays, all of which were fully booked and unable to cope with demand. The 3 Camps led to several new divers being recruited to Ayr’s diving programme. Since the Olympic Games and the medal-winning performance of Tom Daley, Ayr’s diving programme has been receiving an unprecedented number of enquiries regarding diving lessons and the Diving Club. Some enquiries have come from as far afield as Glasgow, Hamilton & East Kilbride. All entry-level classes are now full and there is now a 2-month waiting list for places, with the list growing all the time. The recent interest in diving has given coaching staff greater leverage with which to request increased pool-time / funding etc. Discussions are already under way with the Citadel’s management on the subject of expanding the diving programme, increasing pool & dry time allocation and maintaining awareness through promotion. Funding has been requested from South Ayrshire Council to buy two new Maxiflex B-Type springboards, to replace the existing springboards at the Citadel Leisure Centre. The existing boards are quite old, outdated and prone to disrepair, and are in desperate need of replacement. Our request for funding is currently being considered by Citadel management. Two new boards would make a massive difference to the standard and quality of diving here in the West, and allow us to be more competitive with other Clubs in Scotland and south of the border. We are optimistic that our request for funding will be granted, in whole or at least in part. A provisional date for our West District Championships has now been set as Saturday 10th November. We understand that this date may not be ideal for everyone who might wish to attend, as the Scottish Diving calendar is becoming increasingly full. We hope however, that the Clubs in Edinburgh and Dundee might still be able to send down teams to our Championships, perhaps with Junior members of coaching staff. Failing that, we would do our best to look visiting teams with our own coaching staff her in Ayr, if required. Mhairi Goodwin from Ayr Diving Club has been given the opportunity to train once per week at the new RCP in Edinburgh. This was the result of discussions between coaching staff from Ayr and Edinburgh, where it was agreed that Mhairi had good potential, and that she would benefit greatly from the extra training in a top-class facility. 8.2 Midlands Numbers are increasing in the wake of the Olympics. The club will attend the next Levels competition in Edinburgh on 22nd Sept. A date is being sought to run the Midlands District Championships. It will be a closed event this year. The recommencement of this event signifies an exciting milestone in the growth of the sport in the area. The New Olympia pool is running a few weeks behind schedule and will not be open until March 2013 at the earliest. It is hoped to send teams to Tynemouth, Winter Masters, Thistle and West Districts DCA championships are scheduled for 24th Nov. 8.3 East Results from NAGS in Sheffield were greatly improved on last year. The Summer Camps Private & Confidential Scottish Swimming – Diving Committee Minutes Page 2 of 3 were fully subscribed and went very well. The new Autumn programme is now in full swing with an additional Masters class is being considered. Newbattle Pool has one popular diving class a week. It is run by EL but it is hoped that Midlothian Council will take over in April 2013. EL is liaising with Wester Hailes about classes. VT has had her tutor status renewed 8.4 National Grace Reid performed well in the Junior Europeans in Graz, gaining Gold and Silver in the 3m synchronised and individual events. As a result she has been selected for Junior World Championships in Adelaide. The Celtic cup was a great success. It will take place in Dublin next year. Ayr may be a good source of possible chaperones. National Squad currently train on Saturday morning. Early weekday mornings are being mooted. Mhairi Goodwin is benefiting greatly from her 2 ½ hour Monday sessions. It is hope a team of around 5 will compete at Lund Another judge has qualified under FINA requirements. There have been lots of enquiries about the Thistle Trophy and the Scottish Nationals. JO will head up an organising committee. An informal initiation is scheduled for 6-7 at the RCP on Thurs 6th Sept. Training officials and recorders and judges is now a priority especially as a number of high level events are scheduled to take place at the RCP over the next 2-3 years. A Recorders Course is being organised. In addition, the World Series Grand Prix in April or the GB Championships in June are good opportunities to run a FINA Judges School. Scottish Swimming has agreed with Edinburgh Leisure to finance the post of a Performance Diving Development Manager. 9. Finance Report: 9.1 JO circulated details of the 2011-12 budget which has run as expected. The Celtic Cup was largely funded by the National Diving budget. 9.2 The 2012-13 Budget Proposal was also circulated 10.0 Health & Safety: MS and VT have raised the heat problem with a Duty Manager 11. AOCB: An informal Thistle Trophy planning meeting is to be held Thurs 6th Sept at the RCP. MS is to look MS out a ‘task list’ from future years. It was agreed an information pack should be got out as soon as possible. PS enquired about the next Levels competition on 22nd Sept and MS explained that the timings still MS had to be confirmed due to an issue with the pool programming. MS requested club kit for Lund JO is commissioning and donating a new Thistle Trophy. District Convenors are to forward an inventory of their District Trophies to JO so that she can make PS VT sure they are all insured through Scottish Swimming KN Skype is to be tested at the RCP with a view to holding future meetings there.
