A streetcar named Borough Green goes by downtown, fire sparks in the dark of night. The cracked actor known as Alec Cornwell has checked in as Samuel Barclay in room #709 at The Saint James Hotel, overlooking the terrace of The Hohner Building where The Maximilian Rostovich Trio rehearse Baby Pizzicato Strings in open air awaiting its performance at the midnight soiree. The weathered thespian’s sipping Valpolicella fishing for tidbits and highlights in the murky waters of a surging memory as the notion of Seven Oaks enters his mind as a flashback flimsy black and white 8mm-reel of a blonde woman beefing about her policeman husband, the reel stops, cracks up and burns followed by another sip of claret and some scribbled notes in a time-worn Moleskin notebook. There’s a party going on aboard the schooner, tongue slipping, stone skipping, container shipping, skinny dipping, honey dripping to the distant sound of a jazz trio as the mirky depths of the subconscious continue to move in mysterious ways.
