Over the next 10 laps, Kimball would move from sixth to the third position until pitting again on Lap 100 for fuel and tires. The No. 83 was running in sixth until a multi-car incident on Lap 112 caused another caution. Kimball pitted under yellow on Lap 115 for fuel and tires and was seventh on the restart on Lap 123, where he would stay until pitting again on Lap 151 for fuel and tires. Another yellow for the field came on Lap 153 when teammate Tony Kanaan hit the wall, and after a five-lap clean-up Kimball would start in the lead on the restart. 10 laps later the field saw another yellow flag for debris and NNCGR would bring the No. 83 in for the final stop of the day under yellow for fuel and tires. Notes of Interest Kimball’s third-place finish was his best of the season and his career-best finish at the Indianapolis 500, including 10 laps led. Kimball had the fastest lap of the race at 226.712 mph on Lap 102. NNCGR Quoteboard Charlie Kimball, No. 83 NovoLog FlexPen Chevrolet: "I'm so happy with the result - it means a lot to finish in the top three at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The No. 83 Levemir® FlexTouch® Chevrolet was obviously fast and we made up a lot of spots throughout the race. Whenever I asked for something with the car, the Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing guys just kept making the car better and better. We've had some bad luck this season, so it's nice to see our hard work finally start to pay off. I'm looking forward to Detroit and I'm hoping we can keep the good results coming." Next up for the Verizon IndyCar Series is the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit Race 1 Saturday May 30 at 3:30pm on ABC. Polesitter Dixon Fourth at 99th Running of Indianapolis 500 INDIANAPOLIS (May 25, 2015) - Target Chip Ganassi Racing (TCGR) driver Scott Dixon finished fourth at the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Dixon and Team Target started the day on the inside of Row 1 after winning the team’s fourth pole for The Greatest Spectacle in Racing, which also marked the second for the New Zealander (2008). The No. 9 car took the lead on the opening lap of the 200-lap race, and led the first 19 laps until dueling with teammate Tony Kanaan for the top spot, and giving up the lead on Lap 34. Dixon regained the lead on Lap 41 and held the point until Lap 66. Approaching the halfway point of the race the team again traded the lead with teammate Kanaan and the No. 22 car until Lap 76. Dixon would lead five more times over the course of the race until Lap 187. The turning point of the race came on Dixon’s last pit stop when he asked for a change on the car that resulted in understeer, making it difficult for the car to turn through the corners. After a total of six pit stops, in the final stages of the race Dixon maintained a position in the top five and ultimately brought the Target car home in fourth place. With the result, Dixon holds the third position in the Verizon IndyCar Series point standings with 211 markers, 61 points behind the points leader Juan Pablo Montoya. Notes of Interest Dixon led the race for a race-high 84 laps, which was double that of the second highest in the category (No. 22, 35 laps). CGRT teams combined to lead 124 of the 200 total laps (Dixon-84, Kanaan-30 and Kimball-10). TCGR Quoteboard Scott Dixon, No. 9 Target Chevrolet: "I think the whole race went fairly well, but we had a few little issues there with pulling my tear-offs off, and my head pad came loose. All in all I think the Target car had some pretty good speed. I don’t think I asked for the right changes on the last stop and we had some understeer. When we got back there behind a few cars there at the end we couldn’t quite keep the momentum going.” Next up for the Verizon IndyCar Series is the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit Race 1 Saturday May 30 at 3:30pm on ABC. Saavedra 23rd at Indianapolis 500 After Accident Collects AFS Chip Ganassi Racing INDIANAPOLIS (May 25, 2015) - Chip Ganassi Racing Teams (CGRT) driver Sebastian Saavedra finished 23rd at the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Saavedra started the No. 17 AFS Chevrolet on the outside of Row 9 for the 200-lap race. An early yellow flag fell on Lap 1 for a multi-car accident involving the No. 8 car, and a lengthy cleanup process delayed the restart until Lap 12. Saavedra brought the car to pit road on Lap 37 for tires and fuel, cycling out to 22nd by Lap 46. The second caution of the day came on Lap 64 and the team pitted on Lap 66 with the rest of the field for tires and fuel, restarting in 24th. Lap 112 saw the third caution of the day for a multi-car incident in Turn 1. Saavedra pitted under caution and gained two positions on pit lane, restarting 18th on Lap 123, and picked up another position on track by Lap 140. After a caution for debris on Lap 169, the team pitted for fuel and tires on Lap 170 before restarting 18th with 26 laps remaining. On Lap 176 Saavedra was collected in a multi-car incident which ended the day for the AFS Chip Ganassi Racing team. With the result, Saavedra holds the 23rd position in the Verizon IndyCar Series point standings with 47 markers, 225 points behind the points leader Juan Pablo Montoya. Notes of Interest Saavedra was checked and released for an injury on his right foot, and will need to be re-evaluated before he is cleared to drive. CGRT Quoteboard Sebastian Saavedra, No.17 AFS Chevrolet: “It obviously wasn’t the way we wanted to end our race but I feel very proud of the job the team has done this month. We didn’t have any issues and we kept fighting and fighting. We had amazing pit stops as well that gave us great track position for the battle. Once we got the balance of the car right we started moving forward. As far as the accident I think I was the victim of a rookie mistake. The result makes me want to come back and do better even more next time.” Next up for the Verizon IndyCar Series is the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit Race 1 Saturday May 30 at 3:30pm on ABC.
