ANNUAL BIBLE READING PLAN #% BIBLIOGRAPHY ($ 3 $ NTRODUCTIO% In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth and all therein - and it was good. God created man to be in relation- ship with Him, to continually receive God’s blessings, and take he loved upward and outward - to love God and His creation, completely. (Gen. 2) - mand and design of God. This disobedience is called sin and it has impacted all generations. Sin broke our communion with God, resulting in pain, toil, hardship, and death. (Gen. 3) Though man rejected God, God still pursued man. God contin- ued calling people to himself by revealing himself through the law, the prophets, and the writings - until the fullness of time had come. In the greatest display of love and pursuit ever known God came down to man. He sent his own Son to show us how we ought to live and love. He, Jesus Christ, lived and loved per- fectly. He continuously obeyed God’s command and design, loving God and creation completely. (Matt. 22:37) However, an issue still remained. Man’s sin required a holy sac- - ering of sin, for God bears wrathful judgment against sin. (Lev. 26) For generations men participated in the covenant through and patience to his people. This was man’s attempt to appeal to God by faith. It was also God’s stark reminder that sin against God forfeits life. 4 When the fullness of time had come God provided the perfect sub- stitute - the one who lived and loved perfectly; his own son. All along, God had been signaling that he would do something radical. That he would defeat sin and death. Little did people expect that God’s battle against sin would place his Son’s life on the line, as he would stand be- tween God’s people and judgment. The godly would stand in the place that sinner’s deserved. Sinners would receive the righteousness that Christ achieved. from the dead after three days signaling that the sin and death that reigned for so long had been defeated. The curse of generations had Hope was here. Light had broken into darkness. All things were being made new. And, all things will be made new. Death will cease and life - dered worship of God by faith in Christ. The purpose of this worship guide is to remind us of this story and continually call us back to our purpose - to love upward and outward, to love God and His creation. We believe the Lord will use personal, family, and corporate rhythms of reading scripture, singing scripture, praying scripture, and memorizing scripture to stir our affections to- wards loving God. Then, the result of loving God is loving what God loves - his people. 5 ONE !EA& 6 When someone is saved by grace through faith in Jesus, he or she is drawn to seek to know Jesus. Jesus says that all of Scripture is about Himself; therefore, to know Jesus deeply we must know Scripture. (John 5:39) '() The best way to read scripture is to (1) understand what the author intended to say when it was written ("exegesis"), (2) consider the meaning across the biblical narrative in light of Jesus Christ 2 Read scripture during the corporate gathering, personal devotion and family worship. Following the passages provided in this guide will collectively focus our hearts and minds on the same truths. 7 TWO "IN* 8 Singing is a discipline of proclaiming gospel truths in song. In Scripture, we are told to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to one another and to God. (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16)1 '() Sing theologically rich hymns full of scriptural truths from “Hymns of Grace” hymnal, which can be purchased at HymnsOfGrace.com. Also, “follow” the Rhythms playlist on Spotify containing all the hymns at ChristCovenant.com/playlists or scan the QR code below. 9 THREE +RA, 10 Prayer is communication with God. Prayer should entail adoration of God, confession of sin, thanksgiving for how God has provided, and supplication for the needs of self and others. God wants us to pray as a demonstration of our trust in the sovereign care of God. Prayer is participation in our fellowship with God and plays an important role in kingdom advancement.1 '() Pray the “Psalms of the day” by taking the 150 psalms and dividing them by thirty days. Since most months have at least thirty days, the results to use to guide your prayers. Once you cannot think of anything else to pray continue to the next verse. The fruit of this exercise is allowing God’s inspired words to guide the thoughts and words prayed back to Him.3 11 FOUR -EMORIZ. 12 Memorizing Scripture is commanded and modeled in the Bible. In Colossians 3:16, Paul writes, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." This idea is not new. Instead, we see this throughout the whole Bible: Deuteronomy 6:6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Joshua 1:8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Proverbs 7:1 My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. John 15:7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you '() 1.
