Backboards - Position. (Rule 1-13.4). It is recommended to provide, where possible, a 3-foot-wide lane on both sides of the basket stanchion to allow more room for players falling or running out of bounds to regain their balance. Logos/Names/Equipment - Decals. (Rule 1-17.1). To permit institutional or conference social media decals on the top edge of the backboard frame. For postseason play only, an American flag and one conference or NCAA logo is permitted in the lower corners on the front of the backboard, provided they do not exceed 5 by 8 inches. Uniforms - Shorts. (Rule 1-22.4). The perceptible majority color of the game shorts shall be the color of the neutral zone of the game jersey. Uniforms - Game Jersey. (Rule 1-22.7.a). An institutional logo, in addition to the institution’s name or mascot, is permitted in the neutral zone. Uniforms - Game Jersey. (Rule 1-22.7.c). An institutional logo and a conference logo may both appear on the front shoulder panel of the game jersey, provided they meet the size restrictions of Rule 1-25.2. Uniforms - Game Shorts. (Rule 1-22.11). Institutional names, nicknames, mascots and logos are permitted on the game shorts provided that a perceptible majority of the game shorts is the color of the neutral zone. There are no restrictions as to the size, quantity and placement of these institutional marks so long as it is readily apparent that the majority color of the shorts is the same as the neutral zone of the game jersey. Uniforms - Undergarments. (Rule 1-23.2). One institutional logo or mascot meeting the restrictions of Rule 1-25.2 may appear on undergarments that extend below the game shorts. Uniforms - Arm/Knee/Lower Leg Sleeves. (Rule 1-24.4). One institutional logo or mascot meeting the restrictions of Rule 1-25.2 may appear on an arm sleeve, knee sleeve or leg sleeve. Duties of Timers. (Rules 2-10.9 and 10-4.5). The time limit to replace a disqualified player is reduced to 15 seconds. When the head coach fails to replace the disqualified player before the second horn, the head coach is assessed a bench technical foul. Substitutions - Monitor Review. (Rule 3-6.1.i). Substitutions are not permitted when there is an instant replay review in the last two minutes of the game until the results of the review have been reported to both head coaches. Periods - Length. (Rule 5-6.1). Playing time for varsity games shall consist of four 10-minute periods. The intermission between the first and second and the 5 6 WOMEN'S CHANGES FOR 2016 AND 2017 third and fourth periods shall be 75 seconds in a non-media game or 75 seconds or the length of the electronic-media timeout in a media game. Timeouts Granted and Charged - Option to Advance the Ball. (Rule 5-14.2). When a timeout is charged to the offensive team during the last 59.9 seconds of the fourth period and/or any extra period, the team has the option to advance the throw-in spot to the 28-foot mark in the frontcourt on the same side of the court as the scorers’ table. Timeouts Granted and Charged - Nonmedia Team Timeouts. (Rule 5-14.9). In games not using electronic-media timeouts, each team will have three 30-second timeouts and two full timeouts (60 seconds in length). Timeouts Granted and Charged - Media Timeout Format. (Rule 5-14.10). In games using electronic-media timeouts, each team will have three 30-second timeouts and one full timeout (60 seconds in length). There is one electronic-media timeout in each period. The break between the first and second, as well as between the third and fourth periods, may be used as an electronic-media timeout. The first team-called timeout in the second half will become an electronic-media timeout. Timeouts Granted and Charged - Bands/Amplified Music. (Rule 5-14.17). Bands and/or amplified music may be played during any dead ball period. Timeouts Not Granted - Monitor Review. (Rule 5-15.1.f). Timeouts are not to be granted when there is an instant replay review in the last two
