He will also be an Adviser to the Governor. Professor Blejer was Governor of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic from January 2002 to June 2002 and previously Deputy Governor. Before that he was a Senior Adviser at the International Monetary Fund (1980-2001) and Walter Rathenau Professor of Economics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1996-1999). He will take up the appointment in early December 2002. The Governor said: "I am delighted that Mario Blejer will be joining us as a Director of the CCBS in December. He brings with him a wealth of technical monetary expertise from his years at the IMF as well as front line experience from his role in Argentina at a very challenging time." Note to Editors The Bank of England's CCBS offers technical assistance, workshops, seminars and comparative research on and for central banks and institutions working in similar fields throughout the world. Its primary aims are to foster monetary and financial stability world-wide, to promote the Bank's core activities, and to provide opportunities for central banking staff to obtain broader perspectives on their own areas of expertise. The CCBS is based at the Bank's Head Office in London and is staffed by experienced central bankers with technical expertise drawn from the various operational areas of the Bank of England.
