We will be represented at the forthcoming British Council of Shopping Centres annual exhibition in Manchester and also the European retail conference, MAPIC, in Cannes this year, so we would welcome a chat if you are also attending. Recently we have witnessed a greater interest from our clients in the retail sector and compared to six months ago there is clearly more activity. Our due diligence teams have been busy, with our largest commission in recent times being the acquisition of Manchester’s Trafford Centre by Capital Shopping Centres for £1.65bn. Olympic year 2012 is an important period for Waterman Group because it is our 60th anniversary since Harold Waterman founded the company in 1952. In addition, our companies in Australia will be celebrating their 40th anniversary and in Russia we will have been trading for 21 years since we opened the office in Moscow. Waterman has evolved over the years both geographically and also through the range of consultancy services we now offer our clients. Historically, the majority of our revenue has been generated from the property sector with over two thirds from the United Kingdom. However, we have continued to diversify and recently we recruited a new Director of Technology Services in Australia following successes with new appointments in the telecommunications sector. Additional initiatives for promoting our carbon and energy management credentials are currently being implemented. We have recently been appointed for the design of a new Lytag processing plant at Drax in Yorkshire, which will be the first new facility of this type constructed in the United Kingdom for 30 years. Another new appointment is for the provision of environmental and utility consultancy services on the United States Embassy development in Wandsworth, London. Our existing commission to design the Crossrail underground station at Woolwich has recently been extended to include additional design services. The consultancy services included a review of civil, structural, building services and environmental issues associated with the sale of the centre by Peel Group. The Trafford Centre, which was opened in 1998 provides 1.9 million ft2 of retail space and 10,700 car parking spaces. One of London’s most elegant department stores, Fenwick began as a first floor ladies’ tailoring salon back in 1891. Recently rebuilt and refurbished, Images courtesy of Porterfield PR the store now contains five floors of luxury goods across fashion, beauty and accessories. It also hosts a range of top fashion brands, a beauty studio, café and stylish new restaurant, Bond & Brook. Waterman were involved in major works which enlarged and renovated the entire 71,500ft2 department store, increasing the amount of overall space by 20%. The development was delivered in phases to enable continuous trading with the majority of work carried out at night. Meanwhile, 55 New Bond Street has been redeveloped and comprehensively refurbished to provide offices of the highest specification. Behind the period façade the building offers up to 21,000ft2 of modern office space, including a fully glazed five-storey atrium.
