Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Nick Neidert (7-4) earned the victory, pitching seven innings where he allowed two runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts, and he also contributed an RBI double at the plate. Mississippi right-handed starting pitcher Enderson Franco (2-5) took the loss, working five innings where he allowed six runs (three earned) on eight hits with no walks and a season-high 10 strikeouts. The first two innings featured a pair of runs for the Jumbo Shrimp, both coming with two outs. Peter O’Brien gave Jacksonville a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single. Then in the bottom of the second, Neidert helped his own cause with an RBI double that scored Rodrigo Vigil from second base to put the lead at 2-0 Jacksonville. Monte Harrison continued the scoring in the top of the third with a home run blast to left field to grow the lead to 3-0 and extend his season-long hitting streak to eight games. After the Shrimp were held off the scoreboard in the fourth, Jacksonville scored three runs in the fifth. After a Brian Miller triple, Isan Diaz hit a fly ball to right that was dropped by Mississippi right fielder Tyler Neslony, and the error scored Miller to make it 4-0. Eric Jagielo added an RBI double to make it 5-0, then with two outs a balk by Franco scored O’Brien from third to put Jacksonville’s lead at 6-0. After Neidert’s first four innings were scoreless, the Braves struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth when pinch-hitter Luis Valenzuela hit a two-out two-run double to cut Jacksonville’s lead to 6-2. The Jumbo Shrimp got a run back in the top of the sixth, as Harrison had a two-out infield RBI single to grow the lead to 7-2, which would be the final. In the top of the eighth, Neidert at the plate was hit by a fastball directly on his batting helmet and had to leave the game.
