Macmillan Cancer Support & The Goodwill Partnership celebrate successful legacy initiative Submitted by: Howse Jackson Marketing Tuesday, 8 October 2013 Britain’s leading cancer support charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, and The Goodwill Partnership announce record results for legacy will-writing 8th October 2013: The Discounted Will-Writing Service was launched by Macmillan Cancer Support (http://www.macmillan.org.uk) in January 2013 to help people find a legal professional they can trust to write their will at a discounted cost. Nine months later and the Discounted Will-Writing Service has already seen several GBP Million pledged that will support Macmillan’s renowned nationwide network of cancer support facilities. To help launch the service, Holby City actress and well known mum, Tina Hobley, partnered with Macmillan Cancer Support in a call for parents to make sure their loved ones and chosen causes were taken care of. Judith Stewart, Individual Marketing Programme Manager (Legacies), says: “The service is available for everyone for peace of mind that their wishes will be adhered to and there is no obligation to leave a gift to Macmillan. We do know that the majority of people who have used the service have done so meaning that in the future Macmillan can continue to work to ensure no one faces cancer alone.” Judith continues, “Making a will is the only way to ensure things people care about are looked after if they pass away. For example, if a parent of a minor dies where there is no surviving parent or guardian, this could result in the child being put into care.” Mark Jackson, Director at The Goodwill Partnership, says: “The success of the campaign has been a real team effort and I must acknowledge Macmillan for getting behind the campaign 100%. This aspect was vital so that Macmillan supporters got to hear and learn about The Discounted Will-Writing Service.” Mark adds, “Legacy gifts account for over a third of Macmillan’s total fundraised income. That’s why a Discounted Will-Writing Service is so valuable when offered in a respectful and compassionate way.” David Meakin, General Manager of The Goodwill Partnership, says: “The positive feedback received from Macmillan supporters to the home service has exceeded all expectations. An elderly client commented ‘I had intended to leave a bequest to Macmillan for many years to give something back for the help they gave to my family but I had been unable to get out to visit a solicitor to make my will. Using the new Macmillan Discounted Will-Writing Service has enabled me to obtain my will inexpensively in the comfort and convenience of my own home.’” To find out more about the Discounted Will-Writing Service visit http://www.thegoodwillpartnership.co.uk (http://www.thegoodwillpartnership.co.uk) Page 1 -Ends- For further information, please contact: Mark Jackson Director The Goodwill Partnership 01525 376690 [email protected] Jez Walters Press Officer The Goodwill Partnership 07931 381209 [email protected] Judith Stewart Individual Marketing Programme Manager (Legacies) Macmillan Cancer Support 07791 369 364 [email protected] About the Goodwill Partnership The Goodwill Partnership was launched in 2009 to offer low-cost, home-visit will-writing services for charities’ donors. The importance of legacies Currently 32.5 million UK adults do not have a Will and it is calculated that if only one per cent of these individuals wrote a will and left a legacy, UK charities would stand to receive GBP 8.5 billion at current legacy rates. This would transform charities’ financial plight and serves to underline the importance of legacies to the sector.
