China: Chinese Delegation on Green Energy Tour in Denmark

April 2014 China: Chinese delegation on green energy tour in Denmark A delegation headed by Deputy Director General Shi Lishan from the Chinese National Energy Administration visits Denmark during 14-16 April 2014. The delegation is scheduled to go to Samsø and Østerild. April 9 2014 On April 14 a delegation headed by Deputy Director General Shi Lishan from the Chinese National Energy Administration visits Denmark to see first-hand how the Danish energy system integrates renewable energy into the power grid system. During the 3-day visit, the delegation will meet with representatives from the Danish Ministry for Climate, Energy and Building to discuss the termination of the RED-programme in the end of 2014 and continued cooperation post-2014. Tour of green energy Denmark The delegation expressed a wish to visit the island of Samsø. In 1997 this little island, located in the Kattegat 15 kilometers off the Jutland Peninsula, decided to establish a fossil fuel free energy system. Now the island is powered mostly by renewable energy. The delegation will see the offshore turbines south of the island and visit a straw fired small-scale district heating plant and another district heating facility based on solar panels and a wood fired boiler. The Samsø Energy Academy will host the visit From Samsø the delegation continues to Aarhus municipality to meet with the city administration. Aarhus has since 1984 had a sister city agreement with Harbin, Heilongjiang province in China. Also, Aarhus municipality is involved in an ongoing energy project on heat planning in Harbin. The delegation will also go to Aalborg in the northern part of Denmark. Here they will pay the company EMD International A/S a visit. The company specializes in advanced technical and economic optimization software for wind turbines and CHP plants Next stop will be the Østerild testing facility for large-scale wind turbines up to 250 meters in height. Representatives from site owner DTU (Technical University of Denmark) and owners of two wind turbines Vestas and Siemens will guide the delegation through the test site. The delegation ends its Denmark tour with a visit to Thisted district heating company where the delegation participants are going to see a geothermal installation and a straw fired boiler supplying district heat to the city.
