The Frist Art Museum did business with 341 separate vendors in Davidson County last year, spending nearly $4.8 million, as shown on the map below. The Frist Art Museum received visitors in 2018 from all 50 states as well as more than 30 foreign countries. Approximately 3/4 of the Frist’s visitors come from Tennessee. FRIST ART MUSEUM: Education and Outreach Programs in 2018 The Frist’s education and engagement programs are designed to engage the visitor with art, inspire creativity, and increase understanding of the visual arts. The educational programs and resources offered on-site and off-site to visitors of all ages include the following: Martin ArtQuest Gallery is an interactive and hands-on space where young and old are invited and encouraged to discover their creativity through printmaking, sketching, painting, and explore the essentials of art such as line, pattern, and texture. The activities at various stations change as the Frist’s exhibitions rotate. Educator Guides offer curriculum connections and pre-visit materials for educators to prepare students for their experience at the Frist. These are available online and sent prior to scheduled visits. Art Trunks are free mobile art lessons that introduce community partners to current exhibitions. The trunks include color reproductions of artwork, books, re- lated exhibition materials, and art-making materials. Archived Art Trunks are available to any group or educator, but do not include the art-making materials. Educator Workshops provide relevant curriculum and standard connections to exhibitions and connect to almost any classroom or learning environment. Dur- ing workshops, educators examine original works of art, participate in gallery discussions and studio activities, and develop teaching connections. Frist educator workshops are open to educators of all subjects, pre-K–12. School Tours offer a variety of options for pre-K–12 student groups, including docent-guided tours, self-guided tours, and visits to Martin ArtQuest. Visitors 18 years of age and younger receive free admission. Transportation subsidies are available to help defray travel costs. School System Art Shows provide opportunities through partnerships with local public school systems to showcase artwork from K–12 students. Experiential Learning activities are designed to engage families, children, and youth through a variety of programs. These include Free Family Festival Days, Family Mondays with tri-lingual Storytime in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language, and ARTlabs, hands-on workshops for teens with teaching artists. In addition, teens may participate in the volunteer program and learn about museum careers through job shadowing, and qualified college students are mentored through internships. Adult Programs offer multiple avenues to explore exhibitions. These offerings include free lectures, panel discussions, films, food programs, hands-on work- shops, tours, and art history classes. Tours are available for guided and self-guided groups. The Frist offers regular docent-guided walk-up tours and free architecture tours, as well as audio tours. Engagement programs connect with the community through libraries, community centers and organizations, fairs, and festivals. The Frist also offers special programs that serve the adult immigrant and refugee population and those with memory loss and their caregivers.
