We would be delighted to hear of anyone interested in cycling, walking, for St. Peter’s Church, Monk Soham. Half of the money raised is returned to the church, the other half going to S.H.C.T. Also anyone willing to help signing riders etc in on the day, by taking a turn in the church, would be most welcome. For more information or to book call Lisa Kippen on:- 07887 613042 4 NEWS FROM WORLINGWORTH CEVC PRIMARY SCHOOL New Year – New Classes This year, to fit in with our whole school topics, we have a space theme for the names of our three new classes. Our youngest children in Nursery and Reception are in Mercury Class, Our Year 1,2 and 3 class are called Saturn Class and our Year 3,4,5 and 6 Class is called Jupiter Class. There will be a special Space day planned each term linked to our whole school topic so the children can develop their understanding of space in more detail. Watch out for further details on this in October’s news. Whole School Topic For the start of the new school year and the Autumn term our curriculum will be taught through our exciting new whole school topic ‘Inventions & Inventors’. Each class will participate in cross-curricular learning about different inventors and types of inventions. Mercury Class will be learning about the invention of the wheel in our world; Saturn Class are focussing on the history of inventions which have helped communication from the printing press to the internet and Saturn Class will be learning about the world of robotics and new inventions helping to reduce Climate Change and help us to recycle. European Language Day This month, as part of the World Day of Languages, the children will be celebrating the wonderful lan- guages and culture of our continent Europe! Throughout the day, the children will take their passports and travel to different European countries and discover greetings, vocabulary, currency, food and land- marks. We will map the countries we visit and consider how best to travel there. Bawdsey Residential Trip Our children in Years 4 and 5 are off this month for 3 days to the newly refurbished PGL centre at Bawdsey near Woodbridge. The children will participate in various team building and physical activi- ties, learning new skills and using their growth mindset to challenge themselves in new situations! It looks set to be a wonderful opportunity for all of our children to build their self-confidence and to get learning in a new outside environment. Harvest Time September always sees us celebrating the wonderful harvest time: we will be having a special Harvest Festival assembly with prayers and songs to remember how lucky we are and with the children donating lots of lovely produce to be auctioned by the church for charity. Fairies and Elves Our friendly tea and toys group is called Fairies and Elves and it is held the first Thursday of each month at the school from 1.30 – 3.00pm. The first meeting this year is Thursday 3rd October 2019. We welcome young children who would like to enjoy singing, stories and some craft activities with their parent, grandparent or carer – babies are welcome too! It’s a chance to meet others, relax and have a cup of tea. Willows Nursery Our full time nursery is thriving and our youngest and newest children quickly settle in and enjoy get- ting to grips with their learning through lots of role-play, creating, listening to stories and singing songs as well as games in the garden. The Parish Council has arranged for First Aid, CPR and Defibrillator training to take place on Tuesday 22 October in the evening, at the Community Centre. Further details will be circulated in the October Newsletter. Village Signage There have been reports of various signs in the village that are faded or overgrown and difficult to read. The Parish Council are always keen to help and will refer details on to Suffolk County Council Highways, but matters such as these can also be quickly and easily reported online via online reporting tool, at: https://highwaysreporting.suffolk.gov.uk/ Recycling in Worlingworth The Parish Council is looking to collate a definitive list of what can be recycled in Worlingworth and where parishioners need to take their recyclable goods. If you, or someone you know, collects specific items (such as printer cartridges/old glasses/crisp packets etc) then please share the details with the parish clerk for inclusion in the list worlingworthpar- [email protected] Worlingworth Fruit & Produce Show The committee behind the Worlingworth Fruit & Produce Show has disbanded and passed a sum of money to the Parish Council for safekeeping.
