Walking Club Bradford Senior Wayfarers www.seniorwayfarers.org.uk Thank you for your enquiry about the Senior Wayfarers the midweek walking club in the Bradford West Yorkshire area for people who enjoy walking, socialising and, above all, having fun. Our club is aimed primarily at the 50+ age-group but we welcome people of any background to join our friendly and welcoming walking groups, social activities or weekend away. How to join We are a very informal club so you could just turn up to one of our walks; the syllabus tells you when and where they start and it costs £1 per person using it. Please pay for this copy by giving £1 to the Group Leader on your first walk. If a walk goes through noon then bring a packed lunch. Our welcome Although we are happy for you just to turn up we prefer to make sure we welcome you properly so, before coming along, we suggest you ring the leader of the group you wish to join and have a chat (their details are on the syllabus). He or she may be able to tell you about the group, the walk and the level of difficulty. About the club The Senior Wayfarers Club was formed in 1979 as a result of a two-line advert in the Telegraph and Argus by Tom and Ruby Wilcock. Eight people turned up for the first walk. We now number 300. You become a member when you buy a £1 syllabus (from the group leader). The syllabus is issued every 4 months. None of the groups allow dogs. We have seven groups (*indicates use public transport): 1. Monday 8 milers 5. Thursday 5 to 6 milers* 2. Tuesday afternoon 5 milers* 6. Thursday 8 milers 3. Tuesday afternoon 4 to 5 milers* 7. Thursday 8 to 10 milers 4. Wednesday 3 to 4 milers* Walk routes are devised by group members. You walk at your own risk. Members who plan routes are not trained to lead walks. You should not normally walk in front of the leader. [email protected] April 2019 £1 Per person using this copy. Bradford Senior Wayfarers Founded in 1979 by Tom and Ruby Wilcock December to March 2020 President: Irene Jowett Chair and web editor Roger Pollard 07770 344596 Acting Secretary Pat Meadows 07796 955493 Treasurer: David Webster 01274 602193 07975 721112 seniorwayfarers.org.uk Whilst every care is taken on these walks remember everyone taking part does so at their own risk. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing. Dogs are not allowed on any Wayfarers walk, anyone bringing a dog will not be allowed to join the walk. The picture opposite is of the Wednesday Group on a walk above Elland Chair and Secretary posts We have had two wonderful volunteers come forward. Verner Wheelock has said he is prepared to put his name forward, at the next AGM, as Chair and Pat Meadows has said she will stand for the post of secretary. Pat will take over as acting secretary from 1 November 2019. A willing volunteer is still required to take-over as web editor. In case of emergency... Thankfully people being injured or falling ill on our walks is a rare occurrence but if it did happen to you and you were unable to communicate who should we contact on your behalf? Of course, other walkers would rally round and seek medical help but in such an emergency do you have about you details of a contact? We recommend that you carry in your wallet or rucksack a card with your emergency contact details (most diaries have such a page). The next Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 17 March 2021 at Shipley Library starting at 1.30 pm. In accordance with the club’s constitution items for the agenda must be submitted 30 days in advance. These can be sent to Pat Meadows: [email protected] Closing date for group leaders to submit their next syllabus to Pat: 5th March 2020 Bradford Senior Wayfarers Monday 8 milers December/March 2020 Postcode Date Title of Walk Meeting Place Travel Details Dist Leader(s) Grid Ref Aire Valley Broadway, Bingley BD16 4QA A650 Bingley, Ferncliffe Ian Horsman 2 Dec 8 Villages onstreet pkg SE115 390 Rd, 2nd rt Broadway 07967 209097 Christmas Lunch at the George and Rod Seed 9 Dec BD10 0PU Apperley Bridge 4 Dragon 07849 861639 From Birkenshaw r/b A651 16 Dec Oakwell Hall First carpark SE214269 7.5 Colin Martin to A652 West End of Main St Off A61 Harrogate Rd or A country lane Ian Robottom 23 Dec Sicklinghall (at entry LS22 4BD A661 out of Wetherby to 8 ramble 07410380801 signage to village) Sicklinghall Laycock/ SE032 409 From Keighley, West Ln, Bryn 30 Dec Keighley Moor Laycock Memorial Hall 8 BD22 0PH Braithwaite Rd, Laycock Ln. 07504193623 res The Billings, Apperley Bridge car Off A658 at Playing Field Alan Gray 6 Jan BD10 0PU 8 Lawson No2 park car park 07722 146209 From Bradford turn left Beckfoot Lane, BD16 3LX John Sykes 13 Jan Cullingworth just before Cottingey 8 Cottingley Bridge SE112382 07443 869468 Bridge Dog & Gun pub, BD22 9SN Long Causeway B6141, Barbara 20 Jan 3 Chimneys Oxenhope.
